Cot bedding - what do you use? Or not use?

Sorry, this is a bit dull but I'd appreciate some advice.

I'm looking at getting 20 mth old dd a pillow and duvet for her cot. I think she's getting a bit cold at night.

Feeling a bit bamboozled by all the choices.

What would you recommend?

What factors should I consider?

How much should I worry about overheating?

Argh. Just tell me what to do!

ds2 (24m) has a pillow and a duvet - and usually a gro-bag aswell. Seems alot but he is never hot, when I started with just the duvet he always woke cold in the night.
We made a couple of duvets using a low tog (4.5 I think) single duvet - sewed 2 channels across the middle and cut between. Got a simple patterned single duvet cover and cut that in half to make 2 covers.

At that age we always used sleeping bags as DD and DS were (and still are) such wrigglers.

Duvets or sheets/blankets didn't stay on for more than 2 mins.

We just used to vary the tog of sleeping bag and what they wore underneath dependent on the temperature

dont worry about overheating too much now . shes old enough to push the covers off if necc.

cot bed duvet is a size about right for a cot. you can get them in johnlewis or mothercare. you can also get pillos there - they need to be wee flat things. i found cheapy pillows from ikea quite good, coz not much in the way of filling.

wherever you get the duvet and pillow, theyll sell the appropriate size covers etc.

re; tog ratings: the usual is, spring and autumn are 9tog, summer is 4.5 tog and winter is them both together.

in practice, our house is pretty warm and mine dont really need more than 4.5 tog.

It does seem silly to worry about what bedding she should have when half the time she ends up in with us and our proper pillows and duvet. But y'know. PFB n all that .

Like the idea of cutting a duvet in half.

Will look at toddler bed duvets.

I looked at cot bed duvets - and the only one I found was M/C at £30 each!!!! Though I think Ikea does some (we aren't near one).
So the £9 duvet that I made 2 from was a bargain!
I say I, all credit actually goes to my mum .

I have a 22 month old.

he has a normal pillow and duvet half the duvet (in a normal cover is tucked UNDER the cot mattress, so he has a normal amount of duvet for the size of his cot.

actually we did what Colditz does once ds1 was in the bed (of the cot bed) and I thought making the half sized ones had been a waste - but they are great for on the sofa when they are ill etc - I think we will be using them for many years.
