Sleep

7 month old getting stranded on tummy and needing rescuing several times a night

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to deal with this? My DS does know how to roll over onto his back, and will do this during the day, but at night he seems to get stuck up on his arms and can't get down. It's also making it impossible to encourage him to fall asleep on his own because as soon as I put him down he flips over and gets all hyped up and eventually starts crying.

Is there anything I can do or is it just a matter of waiting for him to grow out of it? He's always been a terrible sleeper, waking every two hours or less since he was born, so perhaps this is simply the latest thing and I should just admit defeat!

My 7 month old DS2 also does this but I dont have any answers as to how to get him to stop - figured he would just grow out of it.

We just go in and turn him back over and he goes back off again - most of the time !!

It is definitely a phase until they learn how to flip themselves back over and you probably do have to wait it out I am afraid ... we used to have to run in and out of my ds' room a few times a night ... in the end we put him in his travel cot for a month or two as it was softer when he flipped up against the side and he was able to push himself back.

Hi,
I rolled up 2 towels under the cot sheet and wedged my son in, not sure if it's the right thing to do, but certainly worked, a good nights sleep was had by all!

I'm also in exactly the same situation with my 7 month old...I am trying to encourage him to flip over himself by letting him do lots and lots of play on his tummy during the day. I tried wedging him in with the sheet and sometimes it works a treat and other times he gets terrbily frustrated that he can't move!

Thanks everyone for your replies. I've tried the towels as well but he always manages to escape, the little monkey. Travel cot is a good idea, will definitely give this a try. Sounds like a developmental thing if other 7 month olds are also doing it so hopefully it will pass soon.
