lucky you!
ds is 11 mo and sleeps 12 hrs at night and 2 during the day usually and i think this is good!
so long as he is well, i'd enjoy the break!

Mine sleeps for about the same number of hours each day, just divided up differently. He does about 12 hours at night and another 4 or 5 the day, usually in 2 naps.

When 12 months old ds regularly slept 1-2 hrs in the morning, 2-3 hours (if he could get it) in the afternoon and was in bed by 6pm exhausted most nights. He did get up early though.

So he slept about 14-15 hours a day

He did spend the first year of his life sleeping really badly though and his night sleep was often punctuated by wake-ups though these got much less by the time he was 18 months old.

I thought that was pretty good but 16hrs plus a nap is seriously marathon sleeping.

sleeps from either 4-5 til 8-9 then has a nap at 12

well thats amazing, just shows how different children are, mine at 12 months wouldn't do more than 10 hours a night, and maybe an hour in the day if i was lucky

you started two threads on this......

seriously though, my dd never has slept that much but neither did I as a baby (my mum stands in the wings, watching with a sense of justice at long last) my neice has always slept more children vary

you could mention to your hv, but im sure if she eats enough in the waking hours there will be no problem

i don't have a hv. well obviously i do but we don't see her. i know i started another thread but i forgot to watch it so i lost it.

"the books" give you averages on how much los sleep at various ages. the way i see it is that some will obviously sleep more, some less, in order to arrive at these figures. my dd does 9.5-10 hrs at night and a total of 1.5 during the day. there you go - i'm sure between them they are "average"

my dd2 (17mths) sleeps 12-13 hrs at night and 2-3.5 in the day

but I don't think she could do 16 hours straight!

It sounds great but I know that if it were my dd that i would want to ask the professionals about it for reassurance -particularly if it was a recent development.

at 1 my ds slept around 11 hours at night and another 3-4 during the day so total of 15 I guess. Not far off yours...

I had one like this, bed 5:30/6pm. Up 10/11am and nap 2 hours in the daytime. He used to average 4-5 hours awake a day. Took him dr and was told enjoy it because it won't last! It didn't but he still slept well (teen now and back to sleeping the day away, well the weekends)

It was a shame as he was no4 so we didn't get the benefit as the others all slept 'normally'

Only downside was, he was late to reach milestones (sat up 1year, walked 18 months etc) I assumed this was because he wasn't awake long enough to learn anything

Enjoy it while it lasts!

ds has been quite late to do things too. 12 months and just started dragging himself around on his belly, sat up at 9 months, just learned to pull up, doesn't cruise round the furniture. etc. not worried though cos i know loads of babies do this stuff even later.

how long did it last? wow your ds did even longer than mine! 17.5 hours in one go!!

I can't remember when it stopped, I think it was when he was around 3. He went back to normal gradually. He still did 6-7 to 6-7 up to around 6years

He also slept through from 3 weeks old

Wish he was my first!

My friend's dd sleeps for hours and hours, always has since she was tiny. She's now 7 and at weekends sleeps from about 7.30 until 10 or 11 next day.
She's perfectly healthy, but as an example she had a very late night on fri (went to bed about 11pm) and had to be woken next day at 12.15.
My ds1 was up at 6...as usual!

what do you mean by slept through though? surely not 12 hours? my ds slept from 12 - 7 from birth which some class as sleeping through though.

how much passed 1 year was he to sit up?

OP posts:

minorityrules · 26/06/2007 23:03

He could sit unaided (no falling ever) I know he was doing it on his 1st birthday and it was a very new thing.

And yes, from birth he woke for one feed in the night and slept 6-6 from 3 weeks. He did bf every 90 mins though during the day, I hardly got off the sofa for 6 months. I guessed he was stock piling it for the night hours

He was the dream baby!
