My DS is 20 months and for the last three weeks or so, has not wanted to go to sleep in his own room, nothing has changed but they only way we can get him to sleep is in our bedroom or downstairs, nothing has changed for him in his lifestyle etc. We changed his cot into a bed to see if that made any difference it did not he still did not want to go to sleep took my husband or i ages to get him to sleep only for him to wake about an hour later and scream again. Tonight my husband has changed the bed back to the cot and we have put him in bed and left him, it has been an hour now and is quite now, i am now worried that something has happened to him silly i know. It is so awful leaving him to sry i get really upset, sounds daft but i hate to hear him upset the only reason we did it this way is because he knew he only had to shout for a certain time and we would come running and he would get to come downstairs.

I have not properly slept with my husband for two weeks as one of us is on the couch downstairs, we have no sex life and things were beginning to get us down.

Have we done the right thing or am i just as awful as i feel ?

Can't offer advice as DS is only 3mo, but wanted to bump for you til someone more knowledgable comes along.

We have been grappling with sleeplessness ourselves and it's crap, so sympathetic {hugs} for you.

You have done the right thing. Has he got a night light? Its probably just a phase but you need to nip it in the bud. You and your husband shouldn't have to sleep on the couch. My ds has difficulty sleeping sometimes, I normally sit by his cot until he drops off as I hate to hear him cry but he is quite a bit younger than your ds. You could try this but don't talk to him or make eye contact.

My ds was 2 before we moved him to a bed from the cot. Have you tried putting the bed upto the wall and at the other side, putting a bed rail? This makes it feel more like a cot (with sides). This could be what is making your little one upset - it was mine.
Give it a couple more months and then try again. Also, take hime shopping to buy some 'big boy' bedding for his bed that he chooses. Doesn't matter what he picks - my ds picked Dora for his first bed set! (he's now into Buzz Lightyear and Thomas!).

Its as thought something has scared him, he just seemed all of a sudden afraid to go to sleep in his bed.
