Tummy rumbles keep waking LO

My little bundle of joy is almost 4 weeks old and whilst she's good as gold most of the time, nights are fast becoming a bit of a nightmare. She sleeps really well in the day but come night time she becomes really unsettled. She won't go down until later and later, starting with about midnight and last night not dropping off until 3am. Once she's asleep she sleeps like a dream and she's actually really good at dropping off. She spends hours dropping off to sleep and then her stomach will let out this huge growl and she wakes again. She has a dummy which settles her a bit and with this she drops off but what can I do about the tummy rumbles? We give her infacol and she's on cow and gate comfort milk, is it worth trying a different milk?

I know it's a daft question but do you wind her before putting her down?

Yep, we always get good burps. We keep her upright for a while after feeds too. Sometimes when she's super unsettled we pick her up and she will give another mini burp and then be settled again for a while but it doesn't last long. I'm sure it's wind I just dunno what else I can do about it

Could you try a drop of infacol with each feed?

Also try raising one end of her bed so her head is a little higher - we put ds crib on some hardback books at the head end.

She already has the max dose of infacol and I raise her Moses basket too :( I feel like we've tried everything

Have also tried having her in the bed with us, no joy. I really feel like she's uncomfortable not just being fussy. Her poo is like liquid with this new milk too. I think I may try a different brand

Is she windy during daytime sleeps too?

Ds only really settled wind wise once he could roll onto his tummy. Assume it's easier to get the farts out asleep that way.

Maybe she doesn't need infacol now? It's quite effective iirc and maybe it's a bit too harsh . I'd try stopping that before switching milk.

Are you breastfeeding? There is an amazing product called 'optibac' pro biotic which is suitable from birth, its incredible for helping digestion and has sorted out our sons problems as well as keeping him regular. Not sure how you would give it whilst breastfeeding but I expressed one bottle a night and put it in. www.optibacprobiotics.co.uk/shop/for-babies-children?gclid=Cj0KEQiApqTCBRC-977Hi9Ov8pkBEiQA5B_ipbpfrAjIdH2lP3KCNdQZAXwZTxpMAQG-s-biNZvZNz8aAsre8P8HAQ

I tried stopping the infacol for a day and that was the worst night we had, sorry to keep shooting everyone down lol. No I'm not breastfeeding anymore. She never had any wind problems when I was but I couldn't continue due to being poorly and she wasn't getting enough. Will check out the probiotic thank you x

New babies are very windy and wriggly when they're new,it usually all settles down. I remember being quite concerned that ds was in pain. Not being patronising, just bear it in mind.

No not at all, thanks for your input. I'm happy to stick it out I just feel for her when she starts dropping off and then is woken by her rumbling tummy and wondered if I was doing anything wrong or anything else I could try. She's way more unsettled today for some reason. Gah :(

Just wanted to update this thread in case any other bleary eyes mums come looking for advice....
We swapped over to aptimil (sp?!) comfort milk yesterday and oh my god I have a different child. I'm not going to celebrate just yet as we've had good nights before now only to revert back to howling banshee child the next night, however...it's looking promising

Gripe water and baby massage may also help.

Last night was horrendous again. Full blown screaming at some points. Tried gripe water a couple of times and she threw up what appeared to be her entire feed. Going to the GP tomorrow. I think it may be reflux as I can sometimes hear her bringing stuff up and then swallowing it. Gross little creature lol. Her belly gets really bloated too so maybe lactose intolerance?? I can't keep playing around with meds and milk though as I'm probably making it worse so off to the doctor we go

I have been having this exact problem with my four week old little boy and have been trying a few different things too! We asked at the chemist and he recommended 'Colief Infant Drops'. We're only on the second day of using them but the difference has been dramatic, no more tummy pains! Keeping our fingers crossed that this continues...

Thank you I will give it a bash if we can't get a GP appointment tomorrow. We've been trying colic bottles but they don't work with the comfort milk. My sleep deprived brain hurts! Best of luck with your LO hope he stays happy x

You may need larger teat sizes with the comfort milk.

Report
Kittenrush · 12/12/2016 20:41

Yeah this is what I'm thinking but I've spent a small fortune on teats and bottles and none of it seems to be effective so I think I'll just go to the dr and see what they recommend. I'm becoming more convinced it's intolerance due to her huge bloated belly and explosive poops
