I'm sorry if this is a stupid question.....

Baby girl is due in December and she is my first. We are getting a lovely oak cot which should last quite a while. I plan to have baby in our room at the beginning but can she go straight into the cot, or should I start her in a crib or Moses basket?

She will be formula fed, so I don't really want to co sleep, but still want her near me.

Where do you plan on her sleeping in the day?
A cot is fine at night however sheshould sleep in the same room as you for the first 6 months for day and night sleep which is why most tend to get a crib or moses basket.

Bear in mind things don't always work out how you plan.

We bought a beautiful moses basket and rocking stand and my son refused to sleep anywhere but my arms for the first 5 months. I tried and tried and tried but he would scream and wouldn't stop until he was picked up. We tried a snuzpod as well and he was the exact same, and the cot.

At 5 months he suddenly seemed confident enough to just start wanting to be put down. He's now 8 months.

The day we put the moses basket in the loft was a sad day! He slept in it for a total of about 17 minutes. Not how I'd envisaged it when we bought it!

Thank you for the advice. I hadn't even thought if daytime sleeping! Duh! So probably best I get something portable like a Moses basket as she will either be downstairs with me or with DP in his office (at home). Do you think it would be best for her to use the Moses basket at night if she's happy in it during the day? Would switching to the cot at night be confusing or detrimental to her routine?

I don't think it would matter if you use the moses basket for daytime and the cot for night time. That will just be her routine.
Although I have a similar experience as above, had a lovely moses basket for DS1 who woke everytime we put him in it. I kept it for 12 years, got a new mattress and then used it for DS2 who probably slept in it for a whole 3 minutes Grin

I used a Moses basket for both day & night sleeping for the first 6 months. It was easy to move from room to room and there wasn't really room in our bedroom for the cot. When I moved DD into her own room at 6 months I just put her in the basket in the cot for the first week or so and that seemed to make the transition a bit easier.
