Ikea hensvik

Hi. I need your help. My LO who is seven months old has got an ikea hensvik cot. It was fine initially but now he likes to have more space when he sleeps. He hit his head with the sides last while trying to roll over. I am slightly scared to use cot bumper. Any advice what I should do? Many thanks.

We have an air flow wrap cot bumper which stopped ds hitting his head and getting limbs stuck in the bars. It let's the air flow through and collapses if they stand on it so they can't use it as an aid to get out Grin

DD2 has that cot and is still in it at 17 months. She does bang herself on it occasionally when she rolls over in the night (I can hear the thud sometimes). Doesn't seem to bother her or wake her though and there's never a bruise so I assume it's not that hard.

When DD1 had the same issue I put in cot bumpers, however DD2 is a climber and I think the danger of her using them to climb out or getting tangled in them is more than the danger of her clonking herself occasionally. I looked at the airflow bumper but it's not padded at all so thought it wouldn't help with the bumping really?

Is your LO waking up when he bangs himself? If not I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Thanks a lot for your replies. Yes my LO wakes up because of it. He finds it hard to go back to sleep. I saw the cot liner but I have the same issue that it wouldn't stop him from bumping his head. DH is so worried he might get LO a king size bedGrin

I don't know what to do.

Oh ouch. In that case I probably would go for a padded cot bumper and just make sure you remove it once he can pull up.

Another idea, you'll need a toddler bed for him at some point so you could get a cotbed for him now that converts to a toddler bed later? Cotbeds are bigger than the hemsvik.

IKEA cots are very small. Ask around to see if you can get hold of a normal sized cot.

I wish I knew it before. I would have never bought it. Hmm

Does anyone have any recommendations on a nice big size cot that converts to a bed? Thanks x
