...imagine my joy at being awake listening to thumping bass and fights on the street Angry

Whoops pressed post too soon. There is no point to this thread really other than to vent! I did manage to sleep last night but am mystified as to how given the noise levels tonight. This is my first break in 15 months and all I wanted was 2 full night's sleep in a row. Apparently that was too much to ask.

Wet loo roll and stuff in your ears. Drowns out everything! Better than any shop bought ear plug. I promise. Sorry. I know the pain of sleeplessness (hence the wet loo roll knowledge)

Thank you so much Ophelias! Had tried loo roll and pillow over head but didn't think of wetting it! Will try right now!!

Oh poor you!

I dream of two full nights sleep in a row! DS is 10 months old and currently on my chest.

Oh I dream of a hotel stay, this would distress me so much! Hope it's over and you're sleeping soundly.

Ophelias you are actual bona-fide genius. I think you might actually deserve a knighthood.

Thanks for the sympathy Bum and Dulcet. I know I am very very fortunate to be able to have this break and even one night is amazing it was just so frustrating! I hope you both get some good sleep soon!

Complain! You might get a refund and then book a different hotel not in a city next time!

I am a veteran of sleeping in the spare room leaving my DH to the nights once a week Grin

Complained and got a full refund for that night with no quibbles though I would rather have had a decent night's sleep! It was only St Albans so hardly a bustling metropolis but will definitely think very carefully about where to stay next time in another 15 months time no doubt Am so annoyed with myself as well as the hotel as I realised when I arrived that I hadn't been allocated the quiet courtyard-facing room I had specifically requested, and been assured I would have, 2 weeks previously. Of course I didn't want to cause any bother and thought to myself 'it will be fiiiiine'. It was NOT fine. Lesson about being more assertive well and truly learned. I still did have a wonderful mental break and one great night of sleep so all in all not so bad. Going back to our wonderful magic sleep consultant who helped us loads before an unfortunately timed bout of teething and several back to back illnesses derailed us so probably a good time to have a bit more juice in the tank!

FYI hotel receptions should always have ear plugs available so just ask next time.
