How long can you 8/9 month old stay awake? Mine seems to be able to go on forever ...

Mine averages about an hour a day...30 minutes at around 9.30 and another 30 about 2ish. BUT he goes down at 6pm and doesn't stir until 6.30am...he seems good with this and I'm happy to get a full nights sleep Smile

Ok perhaps I'm expecting too much of him. Dd needed to sleep way more than him so can't quite work him out

Mine has just turned nine months and can do around three hours (four if I am lucky) before nap. Unless it is first thing in the morning because then I am lucky if she is awake for as long as half an hour before needing her first nap, which is a bit bizarre as it immediately follows her longest sleep.

My 8mo does a 2 hr nap after being awake 2.5 hours in the morning, then 3 hours awake followed by 1 hr nap then 4 hours awake before bed. I think its called the 2,3,4 routine. I have been slowly stretching the awake time in small increments since she was 6mo. Babies are normally at their most tired close to their waking so try not to leave it too long putting them down for their first nap otherwise they become overtired.

If after the first 30 min nap they still seem tired, they might need help settling in to another sleep cycle to help them sleep longer. HTH
