Advice please - cocoonababy or sleepyhead?

I am pg with dc1 and looking at both of these options. We are planning to get a Chicco next2me and put either the cocoonababy or the sleepyhead inside it. Does anyone have experience of either of these? Which would be the better buy? Thanks in advance.

I've heard great things about the cocoon baby. I haven't got one but my baby won't go in the next to me so was thinking of investing but the cocoon is expensive If it doesn't work.

Plus a family emmeber has one and HV told her not to use it overnight but most people seem to use them overnight.

Then I've also read that sleep aids such as these which encourage sleep and possibly a deeper sleep csn increase the risk of SIDS.

We had a cocoonababy but we had a 10lb 1oz whopper abs he grew out of it very quickly. Sleepyhead lasts longer.

Hello, we have both the chicco which I have found invaluable! And the cocoon! I used the cocoon quite a bit in the evenings before we all went to bed but didn't put it in the chicco, I think there is supposed to be a certain amount of height above the cocoon if it is put in a cot and it doesn't meet the minimum requirement so we didn't use it that way although there is a strap to secure the baby in with anyway. Plus a sleep consultant friend of ours advised us not to use it for her to sleep in as then she would only need to get used to sleeping without it.The chicco was brilliant though; the only down side we found they because it is attached to the bed I'm not sure if when my dh and I rolled over in the night the chicco moved with our movements! Also because again the chicco is attached the baby is so close to your head I hear every movement as I am a light sleeper! We used it from day one, never bothered with a Moses basket and our dd was in it until Friday night, she is now in her own room which I'm sad about as I loved having her near me and she could have fitted in it for longer but as she is 6.5 months now we thought we should perhaps move her before she becomes too aware of us being right there making it harder to transition her across to her own room. I miss her though even though she is approximately 8ft away in the room next door! Good luck!

We loved the sleepyhead. Had her next to us in bed to start with then moved the sleepyhead into her cot, could also use around the house for daytime naps. Lasts longer than the cocoon a baby I think. Best thing we bought.

Kaz4755 did your baby take to chicco straightaway mu baby is 3.5 weeks old and just won't settle in it. But she won't settle anywhere really apart from on me.

Also do you know why there needs to be the 2cm height diff? If it was level I could sleep across to settle her easier.

Lastly I can't strap mine to the end as it's a divan and haven't found how to do this even though I'm supposed to be able to.

Interesting whay your friend said about the sleepy head/cocoon.

Thanks for your help. I didn't know about the minimum height thing so that is definitely something to bear in mind. Also a bit about the potential SIDS link - do you have a link to the thing you read firsttime? It would be good to get more info on that.

I think I am pretty tempted by the sleepyhead because it lasts that much longer, but the cocoonababy looks so comfortable - I think I'd like one for me!

Nope, dd didn't take to the chicco straight away but we still out her in it! There was a lot of thinking she was asleep and putting her down into it only for her to wake right up and we would have to start again but we persevered. Don't get me wrong though we had a lot of nights with her only wanting to sleep on me and it being a nightmare! She still isn't the best sleeper but at least she isn't waking every hour (touch a big piece of wood....!) just every two or three! That has to change soon right??! I don't know about strapping it to the divan though I'm afraid, we had a bed with slats so it was easy, have you looked on the Internet?

I cant remember sorry. I've read so much about them and sleep in general and Co sleeping. It may have been on the isis website (Infant sleep info source) driving myself mad looking at them and articles about how babies sleep/why they only want to be in parent.

Wasn't sure about the sleepyhead myself. X

I drove myself crazy worrying about sids. My friend is a neo natal nurse and said that they don't recommend babies sleeping on anything other than a mattress, I was tempted with a sleepy head too but also read perhaps a higher risk of sids somewhere but then I have read so much stuff and one thing contradicts another anyway!

Kaz how 9ld is she. How did u get her in it. That's the exact position they I'm in. She's fast asleep, put her in it and she wakes then she wants feeding when she is awake to its a toss up between being awake all night feeding or getting some sleep myself

We used the cocoonababy. Loved it!
Lasted until DS was 4 or 5mo (until he could roll). We used it at home in the arms reach co sleeper crib, away from home at other people's houses and we used it in a crib in our living room for naps and in the garden!!!

My SiL has used it for one of hers and we are planning to use it for our next one.

I understand it is used in neo natal units in France which sold me on it.

We bought both, the cocoon baby never worked for us but the sleepyhead was fab and we've now moved onto the sleepyhead grand.

Looks like they are both good then. I think I need to do some more research about the SIDS link before buying though.

Sleepyhead is great, and very easy to move around the house for naps etc.

The only downside now is that DD finds it difficult to sleep without it. We tried her without it probably about a month ago (she's 8 months now, 75th centile for weight, and does still fit into it, but not sure for how much longer!). Because she can roll now, if we just put her in her cot she'll roll and wake herself, whereas with the Sleepyhead she can't do that. I don't really want to drop another £150 for the Grand but it'd be the easier option I think!

Our ds loves his sleepyhead a friend recommended it so glad we got one. We use the angelcare sensor pad underneath it for reassurance.
I discussed with my health visitor and she said it was fine to use as long as top of his head wasn't pressed against the top of sleepyhead so his head isn't getting too hot.

The sleepyhead made absolutely no difference to my one's sleep. It's a very expensive store for muslins in the night!

Unfortunately it was nothing that we did I don't think, just something that changed with time! Plus I realised at 4 months that something had to give as I picked her up every time she even murmured so one night after putting her down and her eyes pinging open I left her to cry for just one minute and she settled herself. Don't think I could have left her longer than that though! Things will change soon for you even though it doesn't feel like it!

We've loved the Sleepyhead and she's always slept well. I was concerned about SIDS and contacted them - they sent a very long reassuring response so I'd suggest you do that via their FB page. There have never been any incidents and if anything I found it more reassuring as it kept her on her back rather than rolling on to her front.

Also had a breathing monitor but I'd have had one anyway.

Yes, I'm definitely going to contact them - that's a really good idea. Think I'm leaning more towards the sleepyhead now.

It was the sleepy head I liked the look of not the cocoon. H9w dud you contact them did you jusy ask about nighttime sleeping. Great idea.

I had the Chicco Next to me and the Sleepyhead. DS1 now 17 months. Highly recommend both and the Sleepyhead fits perfectly inside the crib with room round the sides where I shoved all my night time things like Muslims, nappies, wipes etc (I used to just feed and change in bed). We bought the SH when bub was about 5 days old. Had our first 4 hr stretch of sleep that night. Great for putting on the sofa or whatever during the day and if you're staying at someone's house, it's a familiar 'bed' for them - very portable. DS1 was out of it around 5 months when we moved him to cot in his own room but he'd have lasted in it until 6 months.

Love the sleepyhead! Took a while to persuade dh, but after some sleepless nights it was bought. My little man co-slept in bed with me for the first couple of weeks and napped during the day in the sleepyhead. By 3 weeks he was in his sleepyhead and that was in the chicco next to me. He's content and settles well (which he didn't do in the comparatively vast co-sleeper by itself). Also the sleepyhead is super useful round the house and gets slung on the dining table at lunch, sofa next to us in the evening, in the office during the day etc etc...
