Hi DS1 is 8.5 months old and ever since he had a tummy bug a month ago plus subsequent growth spurt he has started feeding every 4 hrs in the night. He used to sleep 7pm-4pm,take a bottle then back down. For the past month he wakes at 11pm, 3am etc and when we try to resettle him he cries until we give him milk. He takes much bigger bottles in the night which he never did!! He eats 3 big meals a day plus yoghurts/custard as snacks so we can't physically get any more in him during the day. I thought this was a growth spurt but it is going on and on! The thing is he is genuinely seeming to be hungry. Why would this happen all of a sudden? X

Sleep regression. They are so excited that they are rolling/crawling/developing that when they wake they can't settle again.

I feel your pain.

Is he having milk feeds during the day?

It is recommended that fully weaned children up to the age of 2 continue to have at least 1 pint (20oz) milk per day. This does include milk in food though.

I assume you are maintaining, say, a morning bottle and one before bed?

Also consider fluid intake. Could he be thirsty at night? What is his water intake like?

Nearly 8 month old here. At my wits end. 2 hrs is good in this house, I've had nights where I've had 4 hrs of broken sleep as ours won't be put down and wakes constantly. Try getting the wonder weeks app to see what's going on with yours, ours is nearly crawling, developing pincer grip, eating more etc. His tiny little brain can't cope. We use nice relaxing bath, no bright lights after 6pm, he sleeps on a cot mattress next to our bed (as do I most nights Hmm ) and I just try to rock/cuddle to sleep as much as possible before reverting to feeding to sleep.
I start back at work in January. It has to end by then, surely?!

Thanks for your comments and suggestions, yes he has a bottle before bed (takes 5oz) and early morning too plus 4oz in his weetabix. I'm back at work too now and the lack of sleep is killing me. We have regressed from a few good months to almost newborn just can't work out why. Like you say maybe it's all the new skills he's learning and teething....who knows?! At least I'm not the only one going through this at 8.5/9 months! Just wrongly presumed he would be sleeping through by now! Oh dear.
