i've always swaddled ds for sleep. at night i can put him down awake , during the day shush/pat works. he can now push himself over onto his front with both arms swaddled which makes me think i should stop swaddling immediately. i've no idea how to get him to sleep and back to sleep if he wakes up ! tight blanket tucked into the matress doesn't work , he just pulls his arms out. Unless i put him down fully asleep and then hold his hands above his head his hands go straight to his face and wake him up if at all awake. he can't sleep in the daytime for more than 40mins so i always have to pat him thro to his next sleep cycle , he also wakes once or twice a night before his early morning feed and patting always gets him back to sleep then. this doesn't work with his hands free. oh , and he hates his feet being covered. tried a grobag recently and he just wouldn't settle .Am dreading tonight ....

Can he roll over onto his back from his front unswaddled?

How about swaddling with one arm out, so he can use it to push over? He would still get most of that secure feeling.

My dd is 4 months and she is still swaddled as she also wakes herself up with her hands. I have put her in a grobag, but swaddle her in a sheet first then put her in the grobag (she only wears a vest under swaddle) I make sure the room is really cold so that she doesn't get too hot. Also she is still sleeping in a glider cot which is narrow so I have rolled up 2 blankets and have put one either side of her so she is wedged between them. This works in 2 ways, she feels comforted and secure and she can't roll over. Good luck.

Yes the hands problem is a complete nightmare. Up and down the stairs a million times a day. Have been tempted to sellotape dd's arms to her side.
Did once put grobag on with arms inside aaaaaaaargh! Unfit mother...It did work, but I was too scared to keep it up in case she diappeared inside it. Unfortunately don't have an answer, but do have a lot of sympathy..have been studying velco very closely lately and feel there must be an answer there somewhere...

I would suggest leaving the arms open at first and gradually open the swaddle until you can fit a grobag? By 4 months swaddling is not really necessary anymore as they have good control over their arms by then.

yes he can but a fairly new skill - at the end of the day when tired he's not so good at it. did think about the one arm thing - just worried about safety.
