When did your early riser start waking later?

DS1 is 18 months, he always used to wake around 630am but for the last 4 months its been more like 5-530am.

Hes in bed for 730pm and on his 3 nursery days only manages 30-45 min nap during the day so feel like he should be waking later on those days. On the days he is at home he can often nap for 2- 3 hrs which im inclined to let him have so i can rest too!

Am hoping its just a phase? When did your early riser start sleeping later and did anything help them to get there?

DC2 due soon so could do without everyday starting at 5ish if ive been up all night with a newborn!

Ds started waking up at 4.45 last January, aged 18 months. We got a gro clock and blackout blind which inched it a little bit later gradually.

What really sorted it was the clocks changing. So in a few weeks, 5am will magically become 6am.

DD is 2 and, prior to that (since she was 8 months old) she would get up at anytime between 2.30 and 5. After she turned 2 we got her a Gro-clock (think she was 2.3). Took about 4 weeks to get consistent results, but she got the hang of it straightaway and she now gets up at 6, which is a vast improvement!

dd2 it lasted about a year.

ds has woken every day between 4 and 5 since birth, and I can't see it ever changing (he is 4.9.....yawn!)

Gro clock! We started using ours with DD before DS was born (there's 20 months between them). She was definitely old enough at 18 months to understand that if the sun (on the clock) wasn't up, she couldn't get up. She was in a bed at this point as we moved her out of the cot before DS was born. A few strict mornings and she got the hang of it.

Mine is still a baby, but my stepson just carried in until he was five and then he would just go to the living room and switch the telly on!

When we started limiting naps to 90 mins I'm afraid.

Mine woke early from 6-16 months. Stopped when I realised I'd been allowing him to nap too early (in the morning) & slowly pushed it until it started after lunch. Then he started sleeping in til 7am consistently, then as he started to drop his nap he would wake at 9am most mornings!

OP given how little your ds is napping on his nursery days I would hazard a guess he is overtired. This can lead to early waking. On those days if its at all possible I would do a much earlier bedtime of 6-6.30pm. This will help him catch up on sleep. He may still wake at 5.30 but will have had an extra 1-1.5hrs iyswim? On his days at home ensure he takes his nap after lunch. Hth.x
