Sleep

I think I'm doing it all wrong...

DD is 7 months. She has had a bedtime routine for months and usually only wakes for a feed once in the night.
However, she had never napped much in the day. She wakes any time between 5.30-6.45 usually about 6.30 and has a 30 min nap at about 9. She is usually tired again at about 11.15. We are often on the way back from baby groups then so she sleeps in the car seat usually for about 40 mins.
By 2.30 she's shattered again. At 6 months I had got her in a routine of putting her in the sleeping bag, feeding her and then putting her in the cot. She'd sleep for about 30-40 mins.
She's started fighting naps now. Yesterday she was awake all afternoon, slept on my lap for 20 mins and was in a state by 5.30 so ended up going to bed very early. Today she cried and wouldn't sleep this morning, was so tired she was rubbing her eyes during lunch and covering het face in food and is now asleep on my lap again. It feels like a big step backwards.
How can I get her to sleep without feeding her and how can I extend her naps? Any suggestions welcome!

I know my post was a bit rambling, but could anyone suggest a way to extend naps? Please??
I've read a bit online today (in the 45 mins she was asleep!) about wake to sleep. Can anyone tell me more about how/if it works?

My DD just isn't a fan of sleeping - esp if she feels she might miss something exciting! 9 months now and like this since the beginning. The only sure fire ways I can get her to sleep are to go for a drive or sometimes a trip in the buggy does it. I do sing to her while walking the streets but don't know if that makes a difference or not. Buggy round shops is no good as too interesting, just round the village seems to do it. She never stays asleep long once I stop so quite labour intensive, but works when she's overtired, as long as I can get her to bend in the middle to sit down!

I think your DD sounds similar to mine! She always wants to know what is going on! I'm so worried about how exhausted she is by about 4.30 pm though.
