Sheepskin for cot

I'm nearly 37 wks with my second dc. Didn't use one with my first but lots of people have recommended lying baby on a sheepskin as its supposedly comforting for them. My mum has kindly bought me a lovely one from the wool company, one especially for babies. My question is...am I OK to lie baby straight on to sheepskin or do I need a sheet between baby and sheepskin? Thanks!! X

Intrigued by anyone's experience of this too, contemplating buying one for my DS as he seems to toss and turn in his cot but very happy on top of our duvet
