HELP! 4 month sleep regression and no idea where to start!

Hi, my ds is 4 1/2 mths old and had a few bad nights 3 weeks ago but its back with a vengence! He constantly jerks in his sleep which then wakes him, he doesnt self settle yet so doesnt drift off to sleep again! hes never slept through but he wakes within 15 minutes of me putting him in his cot! I have given in to co-sleeping just to get some rest as i just cant put him down otherwise! Im just afraid that im creating more problems to deal with once the regression is over! Im so sick of everyone hinting that he should be sleeping thro by now! I can handle waking a few times a night but the not being able to put him down is shattering! His daytime naps are now awful too unless he sleeps in me! Any advice if survivors would be very grateful! :-)

No advice sorry but watching with interest as going through the same here. DS 4 months this week & waking every 2 hours or less sometimes! Have co slept since the start & now wondering if this is actually contributing to the poor sleep!

Oh & forgot to say same issue with jerking awake here too. Only thing I've found that helps is holding him down until in a deep sleep!

I know you won't believe me but it DOES pass eventually! He might be like it for a week or 2 but then he'll fall back into his previous pattern, at least this is what happened to my DS who is now nearly 2.

I found after a hellish week my DS would have learnt something new like rolling over or sitting up, or he would have cut a tooth so there is a point to the sleep regressions honest Smile

My only advise is just to ride it out, sorry! Also, we never co-slept but I know many people who do and its not a bad thing if your both getting some sleep!

Oh just re-read the jerking awake thing, have you tried swaddling him? We used one of these www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/sp+love-to-dream-swaddle-in-sleeping-bags+b1687?gclid=CNDCvYLi0cACFfHKtAodIRsAow which definitely helped DS not jerk so much.

Thank you so much for ur replies! He hates being swaddled and it just makes him angrier....typical! But might b worth another try! He isn't fed to sleep either so i guess like u say its just riding it out! Ive waited and waited until hes in a deep sleep but he still seems to know! Hes definitely learning, hes moving and rolling on his play mat, and even moving around in his walker! So i guess its all for a good cause! I dont liie co sleeping and i never sleep well but im guessing its better than no sleep at all!

Will continue to put him im his cot though until its too much!
