Sleep

enough sleep for 9 month old?

we have an 11-month old (was born 2 months preemie so corrected age is 9 months) who seems to sleep remarkably little. He has anywhere from 8-9 hours at night, always broken (usually up for at least an hour plus one or two other short screaming wake-ups - goes to bed around 9 or 9:30, up anywhere from 5:30 to 7), plus a daytime nap which might be as little as an hour though can be as much as 2 1/2 hours on a really very good day.

surely it is not normal for a baby this age to only need 9 or 10 hours sleep out of 24 hours, in total? He seems ok with it, but needless to say for all kinds of reasons (not least our sanity) we'd like him to sleep more. Has anyone else had this experience? And did your kid ever start sleeping more, or are we stuck with this for good?

n.b. we already have black-out curtains etc. and a very quiet environment for him to sleep in, generally, also give him a huge feed before he goes to bed at night but do not feed him during the night as I feel it would just encourage him to wake up more often and he also doesn't seem to be waking from hunger. He's a pretty skinny baby though, but that seems to be related to genes and his prematurity more than anything.

Can't help apart from saying my DS is almost 6 months and is similar, although he usually goes about 10 at night and 1 in the day. It just isn't enough and he is always tired (so are we). Will watch this thread with interest.

my 10 month old sleeps 7pm-6am with one wake (teething at moment so bonjela does the trick)

daytime sleeps are all over the place at the moment - anything from 1 sleep lasting an hour to 2 sleeps totally 3 hours.

Although she sleeps well at night i cant work out her daytime sleeps at all.

I hope you get some answers x
