Dummy clip when sleeping - is it really risky?

I ask, because I was idly reading the leaflet that came in the packet of dummy clips I recently bought and it stated "do not use when child is sleeping".

DD1 (now 7) had a dummy up to the age of 3 and from about 8mths onwards I used a dummy clip to attach it to her nightclothes so that she could easily find it during the night. Although I did wonder if there was any strangulation risk, I figured that there wasn't as the ribbon was too short and I always clipped it far enough down so that there was no more than about 2 inches "loose" iykwim.

Dd2 is is now 10 months and I have been doing the same with her dummy. I honestly don't believe there is a risk but this leaflet has made me question if I am doing the right thing.

Opinions please.

I use a dummy clip for my ds, like you I make sure it's far enough down not to be a strangulation risk. I started doing it because ds used to throw his dummy out of the cot, and then couldn't sleep without it so we had to keep going in and giving him another one, we used to get through 4 or 5 a night. I expect the manufacturers are just covering themselves against the unlikely event that something might happen to a child wearing a dummy clip.

I also use a dummy clip with dd [7 months] I also read the leaflet and was a bit concerned ,so I didnt use it at night untill around a moth or more ago when she started waking up not able to find her dummy or throwing it out of the cot.I attach it to her sleepsuit and she has her sleeping bag on top so it isnt close to her throat iyswim. I echo bran about manufacturers covering themselves.
