Have I missed something about a new layout?

The last time there was a new layout there were, like, 100s of threads about it. But all of a sudden my layout's gone all weirdy and there's not been a peep. Whassup???

I've just noticed today, all the nice symbols have been replaced by words. I prefer symbols, but I guess that makes it easier for the newbies.
