Are you using IE 7 as your browser? Some people seem to be having issues if they're using that particular browser and the techs are working to figure out how to fix it.

I'm using the aol software, not aol explorer the other one, it doesn't happen on all threads though.

AOL is probably using Internet Explorer.

Long usernames can create havoc with the page layout.
If it isn't happening on every thread, then I suspect it is due to some users having long usernames. Take a good look at the blue bar of a particular message that displays wrongly - is the username long?

I've got this problem too on Firefox.

Is it username length, ProfYaffle? I use Firefox and ONLY notice problems when certain users have posted a message.

Hmm, this is a new one on us! I'll report it to the Techs tomorrow (we've let me out of the Shed for the evening for good behaviour) and see if there's anything we can do to help.

In general, though, using Firefox or Safari seems to cause loads fewer problems than Explorer.

And using Mumsnet New helps a lot, too. And it's prettier

I am using mumsnet new, it's very nice.

It might have something to do with the user names though.

sorry - overdoing the enthusiasm a tad there.

Will definitely get the Techs to look into this in the morning.

Long username problem can be seen on this recent message post. In Firefox 3.0.6 the area is all blue (using 'new mumsnet'), in IE7 the area starts blue, then changes to background (so white), then becomes blue again once the full page width is available.

Suspect the soluition is to limit username length, which may not go down well with some users.

Thank you, nannynick. Very intriguing. Will investigate in the morning.
