Ads, cpm, Adsense, and other ways of making money

I know MNHQ doesn't want to hear all this what with the hiccups of the new roll out, but...

What is your cpm?
Why don't you use Adsense?
You could have a different number of ads appearing depending on whether people are logged in or not (so not alienating the regulars) -- why not?

DH says you should have consultants in to revamp the advertising (or have you done this?). He's surprised with the quality of content here that MN isn't more profitable.

I am not touting DH's company, btw, we're too far away from London. But other companies in London could probably do the consultancy job for an affordable flat fee. DH just sat here and pointed out a dozen or so things on the pages that could be changed to up the click rate without making them annoying to regulars. Different types of unobtrusive ads, etc.

I don't know how to un-login, so maybe you've already done this? But For instance, for people not logged in, DH says that the layout should show the thread question at the top quite prominantly with Adsense underneath, then the thread replies below. There would be a completely different thread layout for the regulars (who tend to be ad-blind, anyway).
