Can you comb hair every night and use tea tree repellent once you've killed them this time? Also tie hair up in pig tails with plaits or a bun?

I'm itching just reading this and I frequently wake in the night having dreamt about the little blighters!

we do comb every night. i do put their hair in plaits. buns, pont tails anything i can do as i cut their hair shorter over the summer.

have tried teat tree. it didnt work.

one parent just leaves conditioner in her kids hair. says it works but makes for greasy looking hair all day.

I think I'd rather the greasy looking hair than nits. what if you just condition the roots or underneath?

I did us all yesterday and dd was crawling with them [shudder]. I'm really struggling to get them under control this time.

What do you use? Yesterday I used Full Marks and the time before Hedrin. Neither seem to do as it says on the packet as the lice are still crawling around when I comb them out.

i would happily send them to school with greasy looking hair, but dd1 def wouldnt allow me to.

there is a massive headlice problem at the school and its getting everyone down. its a lot worse this term than any i have known before.

i actually considered shaving the kids hair at one point. its madness.

this is the stuff from the mumsnet trial thing? havernt used it yet. says its silicone based and will suffocate them. i live in hope.

we cant use the usual chemical treatments as dd1+2 are asthmatic.

i used nitty gritty comb and conditioner. and comb through each girls hair every night.

Mumsnet trial? I must have missed that.
The two I've used are silicone based and are supposed to dehydrate the lice I think.

I am sorely tempted to try a chemical one but I am asthmatic so guess that's out. I know the buggers are supposed to have immunity , but I'm desperate.

I always put dd's hair up for school - plaits, bunches or a pony tail.
Our bugs laugh in the face of tea-tree oil... I swear I saw one in boots and a helmet

Is the silicone stuff hedrin? I found that really worked if plenty was put on. I keep her hair in plaits and tell her to keep her head away from the other children. I don't care if that's mean, I get sick of combing out the little suckers with their crispy bloody filled bodies.

why are the schools crawling with lice all the time? Sorry to ask such a daft question, I'm sure this has been asked lots of times before!

Here (Spain) when a child is found to have them the school rings you and asks you to take them home straight away and not return until nit free, and this week the nit nurse is coming to school to check everyone as this is the 2nd time this term they've found a child to have them. Is it different in Britain these days? It's a loooong time since I was at school but I'm sure we were checked regularly.

DS (nearly 3) has just brought home his first batch of crawlers
MIL says we will now have to completely stip his bed (and ours) wash the pillows & hoover the mattress.
Is she being OTT or do we really have to engage full HAZMAT procedures?

Can I asked if I had any sent to me?
I think our postman is a thieving git we are having problems with post as I had an empty envelope delivered to me last week which should have had vouchers in and a cheque book size envelope from a bank half opened
