Battery draining

Hi. The Mumsnet app is really draining my phone battery today. It's not normally a problem. But in approx 5-10 mins it's drained from 90% to 30%. This has happened 3 times today. Anyone else having or had this problem?

Yes I've had this problem since yesterday.

acidreign · 21/09/2023 12:20

Not just you. My battery usually drops around 10% overnight (if that) but this morning had dropped almost 50% overnight. I had a look in my settings and found Mumsnet App 'background activity' was responsible for 54% of my total battery usage.

Magnolia82 · 21/09/2023 12:48

@MNHQ - are you able to look into this?

Hi all

Thanks for this - we're interested to take a look.
First of all, can we please ask whether it's the IOS or android app you're using?

JaneJeffer · 21/09/2023 14:49

iOS for me

Magnolia82 · 21/09/2023 15:27

Also iOS

iOS here too.

Magnolia82 · 22/09/2023 13:24

It's still a problem today. But also the app is running really slowly for me today and it makes my phone very hot. My phone is fine with all other apps (just Mumsnet causing problems).

This is interesting.

My iOs battery has been draining really quickly today and yesterday, but I don't have the Mumsnet app!

I wonder whether apple have made some changes?!

Tarkan · 22/09/2023 14:27

I have a brand new iPhone 13 (literally just got it on Monday).

My old phone was 4 years old and the battery didn't last more than a couple of hours when I was out. I expected my new one to be miles better and while it is, it's still not lasting quite as long as I initially thought it would. So I do think there's maybe been something with the most recent iOS update that's draining batteries faster.

tobee · 22/09/2023 14:39

Is it to do with the new iOS update?

Scrolling very juddery today

Magnolia82 · 22/09/2023 14:40

That's interesting. But my battery is only draining when I'm on Mumsnet and it's fine when I'm using my phone for everything else.

Whoops didn't read above!

I think some apps have more difficulty with updates than others? I always get a slew of app update notifications after a general update. But not all

LilyMumsnet · 22/09/2023 16:11

Thanks so much for the extra information - we're looking into this now. Flowers

LilyMumsnet · 22/09/2023 22:17

Hi folks

We've had a look into this, we're not sure it's coming from our end but rather IOS itself. We are keeping a close eye and will be discussing more in the office for more investigation.

Yes, I have the same. Using the website seems to be hammering my battery too

FunnysInLaJardin · 22/09/2023 22:33

think it is the iOs update. I turned my phone off today and recharged and now the battery seems fine!

BigBundleOfFluff · 22/09/2023 22:45

Oh mine too. And thank you for this post, I thought it was just mine this morning and I had started looking into getting a replacement battery. iOS here.

I did the same thing and googled whether I needed a battery replacement. Mine is also VERY hot using the iOS app.

Magnolia82 · 23/09/2023 07:15

@LilyMumsnet thank you. It's still continuing today. Just typing this reply is really slow & phone is getting very hot.

The back light on my iPhone has started going dim when reading mumsnet. Doesn't happen on any other app.

It can't be iOS when it only happens using your app, surely?

hauntedvagina · 23/09/2023 14:33

Having the same. Phone is roasting hot and battery dropping loads.

itspiefortea · 23/09/2023 15:13

Agree with @margotrose it's just the MN app affected on my phone too (iso)

Tg2023 · 23/09/2023 15:47

Glad it's not just me, thought something was wrong with my phone.
I'm IOS it's draining my battery so fast, heating up while I'm on the app & taking forever to load threads.
