Why are there two almost identical topics in some sections?

For example, why do we need separate categories for home baking And cakes & bakes ? Why do we separate out the DIY and house decor topics ?

Merging the baking and cakes & bakes topics has been on our to do list for a while , we'll look into getting that sorted soon.

We reckon DIY and Decor are different enough to stay separate though. Are there any other topics that strike you as tautologous?

There's a similar issue of overlap between Property/DIY, Good Housekeeping and Household Goods. For example, if you were looking for advice on which induction hob to choose, you might think Household Goods would be the right place to ask, but in reality you'd be much more likely to get a response in either of the other categories.

The whole list needs looking at and rationalising. People have been saying so for years.

If you switch the topic view to A-Z there are masses of topics with 0 - 10 threads, many of which are duplicates. Looks a bit shoddy.

I agree with Tranquility, I think you could easily merge all of those topics. In fact I have never even noticed the household goods topic.

If you look at the questions asked, there's little difference between diy and decor.
