Being able to add a poll to a thread...

Before coming to Mumsnet I used to be a member of The Student Room. On their website they have additional options when creating a thread that allows users to add a poll. I would love Mumsnet to add this feature to your website :)

Hi there MTWTFSS

Thanks for suggesting this - polls have been mooted by other people, and it'd really be interesting to hear what people think of this idea Smile

I don't like the idea.

I prefer it when posters contribute with comments as a real discussion.

I also think that MN is having a really hard time with the huge influx of newbies, and now is not the time to make changes. I don't know when/if MN will ever settle down again, but I'd like more time to give it even more chances without features that haven't been wanted to date.

YY love it, threads asking "X name or Y name for my baby?" Could really do with a poll to round it all up. Or "Vote YABU/YANBU" and then anyone who wants to expand can do so in the comments underneath as usual. Would save so much time for us lurkers waiting for someone to post what we are thinking

I think it's a great idea. You can still comment and expand but might stop 300 people finding a different way to say why 'banana hammock' is a bad choice for a baby name. Etc

It would also be good to see what the majority think on a quite evenly split Aibu

God forbid a new person joins! How awful.

Do it. Change or die and all that. Best bit about this place is constant change.

Go for it.

Another social media site I'm on does this - it's quite a lot of fun and I can't think of a particular downside.

No problem with new arrivals (sorry, did not expect my post to be read like that). Concern was about timing, and excessive concurrent change (some of which is spontaneous - eg the rapid growth generally and increase of nasty posters - but not a change like this, which would be deliberate).

Polls won't ever give a definitive/representative answer though. They may however exaggerate the current tendency for threads to become the preserve of one viewpoint, and as so many threads are aggressive right now, I really don't think the time is right.

(I am coming round to the idea of a 'hide poster' function though, something I used to be strongl against).

I do think it would be fun to have on certain boards. It would give the lurkers a chance to join in tooWink

Ahhh remember the days when we'd whack up a Survey Monkey just to cause trouble for fun :)

I was thinking of S&B.

Is this dress for a 40 year old at a wedding?
Cute
Brilliant
Bargain
Ludicrously expensive
Fugly

I've seen this on other forums and it works well and doesn't cause any problems. It could be both useful and fun. I'd cheerfully vote for things in a mindless fashion. Can we have a poll on it? Grin

There do seem to be quite a few wankery arseholes who have joined the site recently but I don't think that has anything to do with the wisdom (or not) of introducing new features. If it was the jazzy features they were after they would surely go elsewhere.

AIBU?

It all depends
This is not an AIBU

What about a sub topic that allows polls? Use that as a test and see how it goes?
