Tech (et al), here is a list of talk features that I think would be very helpful:

  1. active conversations: favourites. Shows the last 60 conversations in your stored favourite topics.

  1. random conversations: Shows 60 (?) random conversations that were active in the last 24 hours.

  1. unanswered conversations: Shows any conversations in the last 24 hours that have only had the original poster on them.

Possible? Worthwhile?

I like the idea of the unanswered conversations list!

1 & 3 strike me as a good idea (although I don't personally use the favourites option, but it would be useful to the vast no of MNers who do).

Can't really see the need for no2 though.

Awww, unanswered is really nice! That way no-ne feels lonely!

Definitely like the idea of No. 3

I doubt very many people use favourites, but I'd think being able to see active favourites would be useful.

Random would be nice for times when you're on MN but it's not very active, so nothing changes on active conversations.

I'd really like a ' follow- up thread ' where people can post outcomes of their situations. I find myself randomly worrying about whether x left her husband/ kept their baby or went on a round the world trip two days after childbirth....

I think the unanswered is a great idea, 1 + 2 I prob wouldn't use (except for boredom relief IYSWIM!)

I also really like the follow up idea, people can post outcomes - and people can request outcomes very useful IMO

would be most helpful. oh and sms messages when a new one appears- so i can stop my life, ignore my children and begin mumsnetting.

i think no 3 is a very worthwhile feature.

other forums have the unanswered thread option, it's a nice feature

NotQuiteCockney · 12/06/2006 11:16

I think unanswered would mostly be about products etc, strange requests nobody can answer. But it would be good to be able to find the unanswered ones easily.

I like Custy's no. 4 and SMS. Grin

Yes, that would be good, but perhaps a bit tricky to implement. How can you tell when shit has hit the fan? Maybe some way of highlighting threads that are running more than one response per minute?

again going by other forums, particularly active threads could be marked with a RED HOT icon

Report
NotQuiteCockney · 12/06/2006 11:20

Hmmm, but do we want red hot icons? Seems a short distance from that to tickers ...

I think the red hot threads are pretty obvious in any case, I'm just pointing out it's easy to highlight them

Tortington · 12/06/2006 11:24

and in the case of fios thread - that could be a 1 and two and thee and four!

is it worth suggesting some kind of alphabetical list that comes up for new members when they are registering with a chat name, so they can see other existing names that are similar. i would have found it useful, i use 'lucykate' as its a name i use for everything (its not my real name), but i wouldn't have used it had i known exactly how many 'lucy's' there already were. the ones i know of are :

lucykate (me)
lucycat, now lucycampingcat
lucyjones
lucy5
lucy1977
and even a lucykatie (which is not me!) to name but a few

Hi again

Cheers, NQC - We think that the 'unanswered conversations' is a great idea and tech's working on the best way to implement it as we speak. We're going to leave the others for the time being as we don't think they're so necessary. Do keep your suggestions coming in and let us know if you disagree and think any of the suggestions on here would be totally useful -we are open to reviewing in the future.

We'll let you know once it's up and running,

Mumsnet HQ.

I wish there was a way of showing up people who posted a new thread for advice and then fecked off without even saying thank you

Report
Tech · 06/07/2006 02:09

Hi, we've added a link to "unanswered threads" in the active conversations links at the top. It will show any thread started in the last 24 hours that have only the original post on it.

Regards,
Tech
