Did you get a Blue Peter badge? Do tell - fame and fortune await (well, possibly)

Hello. Some very nice folks at the Beeb have been in touch with us because they're making a programme to mark the 50th <boggle> anniversary of the Blue Peter badge next year.

And they really want to talk to some people who won a Blue Peter badge when they were young(er).

So, were/are you the proud owner of Blue Peter badge? What kind was it? What did you get it for? And did getting the badge inspire you to bigger and better things?

Do please post your Blue-Peter-badge tales on this thread.

The BBC folk will be watching, and they may ask us to contact some of you to see if you'd be interested in taking part in their programme. (Obviously, you'd be quite free to say no, if you didn't want to.)

Thanks, MNHQ <aghast that no one in office has one>

I do! Very proud of mine, although it has since disappeared during one of my many house moves.
It was a little white pin with the blue ship which I got for taking part in a Blue Peter sponsored cycle and then sending them the sponsorship money.
As I say, I was very proud of it and still am. It certainly inspired me to continue with charity work as a teenager. (I wish I could say I still do it but my fiesty 7 month old DD doesn't leave me with much spare time!)

No sad, I wrote in several times with recipes, pictures etc., but never received the elusive shield shaped badge.

Mind you, I wrote into Jim'll Fix It too - very glad I didn't get one of those badges.

I do I do!! Mine was also the white one. I got it from having a poem published in a book. I used it once to jump que and get in free at Madame tussauds! < looks around and whispers... If I give it dd will it get her in places free? >

I do too!! I got a white round one for being a runner up in a competition to design the train of the future! I used it to get free entry to the Heights of Abraham. I still have it although I've just put it in a box in the loft to make more space in our cluttered house.

I got a small round white badge for getting somewhere in a drawing competition. I drew Rudolph Valentino. Took my badge into school all proud and excited to show my friends and afterwards one very nonchalantly announced that she had won one too. When asked why she hadn't brought it in she said that she hadn't thought it was that exciting and anyway she didn't want to show off.
Beatch!

Me me me!!! I was well proud grin I got it for designing a tshirt for Tim Henman & I loved it cos it got me cheapy access to fun places. But it's long been lost sad sad I thought mine was all metal though but maybe it was white with a blue ship & I'm just remembering wrong

HelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 18-Oct-12 11:59:25

KatMumsnet has just fessed up that she got one, too.

For being good at colouring in. Aw.

MrsAceRimmer Thu 18-Oct-12 12:00:31

I've got 2!! I can't remember why I got them or where they are (I will ask my mum). I have the white shield shaped one with a blue ship on it and a green shield shaped one, but I'm not sure what colour the ship is on it. I think I wrote a piece about endangered animals and sent it in for the green one. I will be back if my mum can remember smile

MrsAceRimmer Thu 18-Oct-12 12:05:34

Mum reckons I took photos of the Blue Peter steam engine and sent them in for the white badge <geeky> she is now going to look them out for me smile

I was thrilled to be runner up in a lord mayors cake competition - iirc 1982.

I still have the badge in my treasure tin afaik in my parents' loft.

Asmywhimsytakesme Thu 18-Oct-12 12:08:19

It was red, rectangular and you pressed a little button and a blue Peter flag popped up.

And do you still make great cakes now, Asmywhimsytakesme?

DeWe Thu 18-Oct-12 12:18:19

My girls both have them, but won't really count as they're 11 and 8.

Dd1 got one for writing a poem about a cat.

Dd2 wrote and told them about going to get a new prosthesis.

You need the card that goes with the badge to get in free now, because people were selling them on ebay. Mind you, dd1 got hers at 4yo so looks nothing like her photo now.

Asmywhimsytakesme Thu 18-Oct-12 12:18:51

Well no sadly grin

But luckily I only had to draw a cake not bake one (would have been "interesting" concoction doubtless).

Iirc I drew a fantastical tower type one but of course you will remember drawings couldn't be returned and in those days photocopiers were not abundant in the rural area we lived so I don't have a copy of it sad

I have one!! It's in my jewellery box. I got it for being very brave when I was five and broke my arm really badly in the playgroud. I think I might still have the letter I got too somewhere!

Nightwish Thu 18-Oct-12 12:30:26

I won one from an online competition, showing how young I am here!
I won an electric mouse type robot.
And obviously I didn't do anything fantastic, just entered in my details and my good luck won!
I am not sure where it is though or if I even still have it.

I won a blue peter badge and some prizes for the 'winter wonderland' competition in 1984. My sister also won the same prizes for this competition. I still have the badge - and i think i still have one of the prizes - a puzzle where you have to get coloured balls into the right holes - it was a cardboard base with a picture of the BP presenters, with a plastic cover. I was so proud!!

Happiestinwellybobs Thu 18-Oct-12 12:46:35

Me too - a runner up in the Winter Wonderland competition. The prize was a ball puzzle with the presenters and animals on and a leather key ring. My badge arrived on the day of the school Christmas Party. I went home to get changed into my party dress (a velvet number if I remember correctly) and there was a brown parcel waiting for me at home! I was so excited!!!

RugBugs Thu 18-Oct-12 12:51:51

My Dad wrote in saying how he'd rescued a baby bird and he was sent one - can't say he's gone on to save birds, he had cats for 28 years!

He's 53 so I'm guessing he wrote in in the first few seasons (he was so he says out fetching coal up the hill at 8).

ouryve Thu 18-Oct-12 12:59:32

I never managed to get one.

I did win a Mike Reed Tee Hee Mug, though grin

Jux Thu 18-Oct-12 13:04:29

No, I didn't!!!! My life has been blighted - blighted I tell you - by the injustice.

My bf got a gold one! Outrageous.

I know they thought my pic was far too good to have been done by a 6 yo and assumed my mum did it ....... grrrrrrr.

wink

Asmywhimsytakesme Thu 18-Oct-12 13:11:05

Happie i remember having a little black party dress with a white lace collar smile

TheDetective Thu 18-Oct-12 13:22:47

I got one for playing my cornet on the show!

Played with my brass band when I was 14, so about 14 years ago I think!

NumTum7 Thu 18-Oct-12 13:35:54

Green one here!! Got it for building a pond at school. Didn't know you could get in free to places with them??!? sad
