Quiet sporty non academic 11 year old needs a school..

Anyone know anything about Queen Mary's at Thirk or Giggleswick?
We like them both but need to choose, please help me make the right choice!

It's QM where they can take their own pony isn't it?! (Is your dd doing to board?)

I don't know anything current about these schools. We used to play QM in inter-school sports 25-30 years ago, and they used to wipe the floor with us! They certainly took their sport very seriously way back then.

I applied for a Giggleswick music scholarship years ago.

Part of the requirements for the music scholarship was to sit the academic entrance papers too.........which I failed miserably and didn't get a scholarship, despite having sailed through the audition part with the music.

Obviously things could have changed there in the last 18yrs (actually probably almost certainly have) but when I stayed there for a few days as part of the audition/entrance process despite applying because of my music I felt that it was very Academic orientated too,

from the Queen Mary website:

"Scholarships, up to the value of 30% of the fees, will be awarded to those candidiates who demonstrate in the examiniations that they have real talent for the chosen area. Those who show considerable potential, but do not acheive the standard we are seeking from our scholars, may be awarded an exhibition."

fees are £15,000 a year and there are three spelling mistakes in ONE PARAGRAPH!

I think there may be some confusion here between Queen Margaret's (where you can take your pony) and Queen Mary's - finishes at 16 (no sixth form). Both in the York area, so easy to mix them up.

no, don't worry, you can take your own pony (or you're own ponie, possibly) at Queen Mary's too:

"Girls? own ponies are welcome ? we have loose boxes and grazing ? and school ponies are also available"

Oh yes, actually, it was Queen Margaret's we used to play a lot! I thought the school I was thinking of was nearer to York than Thirsk

I want to go to school there! I'd have loved to go somewhere and take my own pony (if I'd been allowed to have one)

Can anyone tell me if Queen Mary's is a good school? I do not want to travel in to york centre.
