Has improved a lot over the last few years with the change of Head who is into the fourth year of his five year plan. I'm hearing many more happier parents and there is a trend of parents not bothering with the Poole Grammars anywhere near as much as they used to, though this has yet to filter through to the GCSE cohort. In theory results will increase year on year. He has introduced a house system and vertical tutor groups.

Others to look at are Ringwood, Lytchett Minster and Twynham. Ferndown is up and coming with new Head in his second year and turning things round, it had some of the best results around this summer. Avoid Corfe Hills.

Thank you for the detailed response, this is very interesting about the school.
Twynham and Ringwood are already on our radar. Had not heard of Lytchett Minster so will do some research. I guess it will all come down to where we want to live...

Lytchett, Ringwood and Twynham both start at year 7 whereas QE starts in year 9, I have a friend who has been saying that her friends with children at Twynham are complaining a lot at the moment, though I'm not sure what about.

Lytchett had a lovely feel when we looked at it. It's pretty rural and like most of them you do need to be in catchment.

I guess it depends what you are looking for from where you live. QE catchment is fairly sprawling but quite close knit in places to the extent I think I know the family referred to back up thread . I've got used to everyone knowing everyone now but it was a bit strange at first having grown up in a city.

My DD has found it stifling but it suits DS. I would make sure you're on the bus route to Bournemouth so they can take themselves off without your input. Wimborne is a bit of a bubble and some of the children are very sheltered. There is also a lot of pressure to confirm To a certain type and arty, creative types may well do better somewhere like Ferndown.

Wow - I will be reporting my post as the OP has seen it now anyway and I am concerned you think you've identified them. It's quite a large school - from what I understand - and I didn't imagine this might happen.

Sorry OVienna, I was tired and didn't think that through, I shouldn't have put that. I may well be totally wrong anyway but best the post has gone. Apologies again.
