Kumon for developing study habits?

DD is in Y7. Bright enough but not an academic genius.
Homework is a battle for her: she will spend an hour saying she doesn't understand, needs help, before actually doing it, even if it's only a 10 minute task. It's an anxiety thing (some ASD traits under observation at the moment).
I'm wondering about Kumon: I know that she is reaching a point in school where the mental maths/rote learning thing isn't so important, but developing a habit of sitting down, ploughing through, and then reviewing own work seems like a great lesson to learn?
Does anyone have experience of this aspect of the programme? Thanks

If she finds it a struggle to do hw, then she will really struggle with kimono. It is relentless, tedious and repetitive. You will have a daily fight on your hands to get her to complete the work.

My two sons do Kumon. DS1 started in year 7. I wish we had started much sooner. He has always had bad concentration and he really struggles with doing Kumon daily. He gets very frustrated. DS2 is different personality. He just gets on with. He started in year 3. Starting in year 7 gives them much less time to cover everything before GCSEs, so DS1 is at a disadvantage there compared to DS2. Once you start you have to stick with it as it takes a while to get to the right level as you start with very easy stuff to build confidence and speed.
Oh and it's bloody hard work on the parents. Not only getting them to do it, there's all the marking and taking them/sitting waiting at the kumon centre twice a week. Good luck x

Kumon in my country is somewhere parents send kindergarten/ lower primary children to get into good habits, or if they want very basic calculation/ mental maths strengthening. (It's not hard core pushy thing like in England, it's more like to get them ready for school work type place.)
It's not where you send bright child who hates daily work.

I would think there are plenty of homework from school once the children enter the secondary school. No need to do that Kumon at all.It might be better if you agree with DD that she finish her homework the day when it is set. Set up a routine , like have a rest first after arrive home, snack and relax(40 minutes), then homework. You can sit down with her for the first few weeks.Once she has the habit, it will be easier.

Dd used Khan Academy, but there is now also Hegartymaths, which is supposed to be very good. These have several advantages over Kumon:
They have videos which actually teach the student,
they are online
they automatically mark and grade the students
Hegartymaths follows the GCSE syllabus
they make the maths fun to do
They are free
I would give these a go before signing up for Kumon but developing a habit of sitting down, ploughing through, and then reviewing own work seems like a great lesson to learn? Only if you are trying to teach how tedious grown ups can make maths.
