Skegness Grammar School

Hello, I am considering Skegness Grammar for my DD aged 16 who will begin year 12 in September. She would be a boarder. I am not concerned about boarding because she has spent two years at a different state boarding school in the north and settled well. Does anyone have experience or knowledge of SGS that they could share please? Especially useful from those who have experience of boarding. The alternative to SGS is Ripon Grammar, not sure how the two compare. Thanks.

Don't have any experience, but looking at the performance data I would pick Ripon Grammar.
The SGS average A-level grade is only average.
I know it's passed but GCSE progress for prior high attainers is also average at best.

I too have no personal experience but echo stubiff's concerns. High achievers at Skegness gain an average of a B grade at GCSE, that is pretty poor for a grammar. All the comprehensives near me either meet or do better than that.

In fact, Skegness G only achieves slightly better than its neighbouring secondary modern!

Thanks for those replies, I agree that the results are not as good as some other grammar schools. Clearly we have more work to do before making a decision!

diddy, assume you're looking at State boarding rather than Private due to cost?
