Hi Smile I guess we've moved on from "starting" now, having been tempered in the fire of UCAS! By next September I will feel like a veteran when dd2 goes into y13 (which is just as well because she's a much more tricky proposition than dd1).

Happy New Year, everyone! Just catching up with the thread. Belated congratulations to circular's and hellsbells' DDs.

Great news, mumslife, about your DD's headaches. Here's hoping that things improve for her from now on. She certainly deserves it after the last couple of months.

Have people applied for accommodation yet? And finance? I think finance will be our next project.

DD is pretty sure now which unis will be her firm and insurance, and wants to go to applicant days for both before finalising. She wants me to come along to at least one of them. Hmm Much as I enjoyed the open days, I am suffering from a mild case of university fatigue, and I can't help feeling that it will be like the open days all over again - useful if you haven't already visited, but just more of the same if you have. Anyone else done this?

DD managed some revision over the holidays but also a lot of partying, socialising and chilling (i.e. lolling around in jogging bottoms clutching her microwaveable sheep - a faovurite Christmas present). She's not back to school until Thursday so I'm hoping to see some good work in the next three days.

Atia, you will be the wise old UCAS woman of Mumsnet by this time next year! Thankfully I don't have to go through this again for another three years.

Muffinmonster, the offer days are very similar to the ordinary open day according to DS. At least, his Soton offer day was!
He has an interview day at M'cr (has attended open day there last summer) and two more offer days in Feb.
It's an exhausting process! And costly also...

Do they have to send their passports off or just the number?

Re finance - Am I correct in thinking that if you don't want to declare income, then they automatically get the minimum loan anyway?

Yes circular if you don't submit income they get the min loan.

Thanks. Presume that doesn't prevent submit income for consideration in subsequent years if circumstances change significantly.

So back to school today. And surprise, surprise, DD busy doing some homework that should have been done over the holidays. obviously being collected in tomorrow.

Happy New to you all.
DS has 4 offers in now, just waiting to hear from Bristol. All bar one are exactly the same AAA which is rather ambitious IME.
Not much work done over the hols, unless watching Youtube and lying in bed count. Although the last couple have days have been EPQ stuff.

Mocks in a couple of weeks. It's always something for me to worry about Smile

Anyone know when UCAS offers start resuming?
DD already n a panic, starting to think she is firmly stuck on the 'maybe' pile for her remaining 3, slightly aspirational choices.

mumslife - just seen the update about your dd's headaches. Glad you seem to have found the cause - I hope the glasses help.

My dd has basically had a headache since October. She was back at the doctors last week who said they can't really do anything for tension headaches but suggested that she should have an eyetest and see the dentist re the TMJ possibility. She had an eye test yesterday which the iotician said showed confusing results so she has to go back and do some tests with eye drops that will relax her eye muscles (and also give her blurry vision for 4-6 hours afterwards).

Hope your DD gets the headaches sorted soon MrsB.

Looks like some of the admissions are back - DD now has an offer from her first choice Uni. Nothing about applicant visit days though.

Thanks mumslife.

Well done to your dd circular - which uni is that?

Will PM you Mrs B - some sensitive stuff going on, so rather not post choices publicly.

Looking on website, says applicants will be invited to visit days either before or after offer, depending on course. Guessing Music generally after (unless auditioning) as may be workshops.

Sorry circular - didn't mean to put you in an awkward position. The main thing is your dd has an offer from her top choice which is a great position to be in Smile

Found you! Someone kindly pointed out the new thread.

DD2 eventually got a rejection from Oxford (not unexpected) so she can now concentrate on her other four offers and choosing her two favourites.

Hope you are all well.
