Year 9 Level 1 Maths Award Exam

Hello

I wondered if anyone could shed any light on what this exam is and how many levels there are that could be taken in Year 9. Is there a level 2 and 3 as well perhaps? Its in Number and measure and Statistical Methods. I don't know who the examining body is so its tricky for me to get much info on the internet about it.

Does anyone know what sort of grade it would equate to? Is level one the lower level that would kind of be like not being able to get higher than a C grade or is that something different altogether?

Any advice offered will be gratefully received!

Hi there

Thanks very much for that, its the same thing that I found as well! I assume it means level 1 is the lowest but I am still confused as to what the highest grade is that can be achieved by taking this exam. I wish the school would be a little more informative.

Level 1 quals are equivalent to GCSE grades G to D so D equivalent would be the highest grade achievable if entered for the Level 1 award, level 2 quals are GCSE A* to C (level 3 are A level equivalent).

Thank you for that titchy. its kind of what I suspected. I am surprised that if my son has only been entered for no more than a D grade they have been telling me I don't have anything to worry about with regards to maths!!!

A D grade for yr 9 is pretty good!

Sounds like the school are using these quals as "stepping stones" on way to GCSEs in year 11. Not my cup of tea but some schools do it this way.

Agreed - he's only yr 9 he won't have been taught all the level 2 stuff yet!

Thank you both. I have never heard of this exam so was somewhat confused. I really wish the school would let us know exactly what its all about when they tell you that your child will be taking such an exam. I am a little relieved to hear it isn't a bad thing that he is doing the level 1 exam. I had emailed the school yesterday for further clarification so will wait and see what they say now!
