I have had what I believe to be a standard letter sent out to all applicants, stating that if we get a place to get in touch and if not, go on the list blah blah blah sort of stuff. I know we all get to find out at the beginning of March. This letter came from our third choice school, a little out of the area but not too far but I beginning to feel I would like a place there now! Our catchment school postcode wise is actually in another local authority, is a massive school (though semi-rural but a large village!) and sports specialism. Good school but though I have it as first choice, deep down want my daughter to have a new start at a school nearer town with not so much pressure on sport. She enjoys a little sport but not competively. Anyway, cutting to the chase, does anyone know if most (or all) schools send out a pro-forma letter to all applicants, even though they don't know where you are on the list as the LA don't tell them. Or do you think we are in with a chance as we have received a letter and the school are considering us. Sorry it's longwinded. Thanks

Some schools do this, some don't. It does NOT mean you have a place there and nowhere else. They are as much in the dark as you are at the moment.

Thanks for that, I thought so. It's just that I want a fresh start in our home town/local authority but our daughter's primary is across the borough and feeder to a large school (popular school actually) but I don't want her to go there for reasons of my own. Not the end of the world if she does though. Wait and see!
