Repton or Loughborough Grammar?

Have name changed for this but the name is a bit of a misnomer as we're looking to move to the area south of the Peak District now.

We hope that the Dcs will go to an independent secondary school (but intend to put them into a state primary for now).

Just wondering which was the better school? Dc1 is reasonably bright but needs pushing a little, adores sport. DC2 is staggeringly bright but very lazy and is indifferent to sport.

I need quick answers as I have to put an offer on a house in the next few days. Dream house 1 is in a village with a bus to Loughborough Grammar. Possibly ok alternative house (ticks boxes but doesn't excite) is in Repton.

Boarding or day? LGS is primarily a day school ,Foremarke/Repton are boarding schools by the time you get to 11+. We know children at both and children who have moved between both, personally I wouldn't contemplate Repton as a day school, they keep them in until late, have Saturday school and day fees are more than twice those of LGS.

We must live in the area you are considering and there are other independent schools within striking distance which you may want to consider e.g Trent College.

Silly question, are your DCs boys?

Boys and we only want day schools.

I think we're close to ruling out Repton. Thank you to those who have PMed me. All info is really helpful Smile

Repton doesn't suit your requirements as even boys from Repton and nearby villages all board.

Are you going to be too far North to consider Oakham or Uppingham. You are too far North for day at Oundle or Rugby.

Some of these schools can be quite flexible boarding/day/weekly or as agreed.

Oakham doable, Uppingham a bit too far.

Our ideal is a location with easy transport to a school. I spent 3 hours a day travelling to school and it was soul-destroying!

Hi MovingtothePeakDistrict, I just wondered which school you went for in the end and whether you are happy with your choice? I am trying to decide between Derby Grammar and LGS at the moment...
