We were told last night by our school that they can't be remarked because they have already been double marked, i.e. once by the school and once by the exam board. I would be glad to hear if anyone else says otherwise.

Oh, the only circumstance where they would be remarked is if the school feels that the whole cohort has been marked incorrectly and asks for the whole batch to be remarked.

I think to get a remark, the whole cohort has to be remarked in fact I know this is true, I teach controlled assessment! That means every student who was entered for that subjects controlled assessment is remarked. And marks can go down as well as up. It is very ery unlikely that you will get a remark unless their were problems across the whole cohort.

Most controlled assessment is marked by 2 or 3 teachers, and then some are checked by moderators. It is very difficult to get wrong.

I am afraid this cannot be done as an individual. He should have known what mark he achieved even if the grade boundaries were unknown. I would suggest checking with the school to see if the cohort was moderated down because they will almost certainly be asking for the moderator's decision to be checked.

The advice above is correct - school would only submit for a remark if the marks had been moved down by the moderator across the whole sample. This then affects marks for the whole cohort.

There is a November resit - he should be able to carry forward exam mark and resubmit CAs. They will have to be new CAs, though - the tasks have changed for this year.

My daughter lost out on her History C Grade as it was a coursework heavy syllabus and what her teacher was sure would be a C was turned on it's head and became a D. He would have liked to have had it remarked but couldn't as the whole class would have been affected. To start with, I think the whole class would have had to agree because the scores can fall or rise.....and that would never happen!

suresh this is very strange- is your son very lazy/ had a high level of absence. Most schools would not submit work at a lower level than the child's ability as you can re do it before submission
(As long as you pick a different task) had you been informed that the cas were below par?

you're - I'm pretty sure they can submit the same
Controlled assessments. The November resits follow the same format as the previous June. You do not submit the 2014 tasks for them. And you have always been able to resubmit the same task again as long as the initial one had been sent off and banked. Not sure if exam boards are different - I work with OCR.

kez you can appeal the moderators decision though.

Edexcel are definitely new tasks.

You can only appeal the moderator's decision if marks were altered. Not if the borderline was moved and the teacher called it wrong beforehand.
