Ilkley Grammar or Skipton Girls?

Hi we are in the Ilkley Grammar catchment, but a friend has mentioned Skipton Girls as a possibility for our dd. Although we are out of catchment, a few girls seem to go from nearby. My dd is quite 'academic' I suppose, but I am not convinced that the benefits of skipton outweigh the extra travelling to get there. Obviously we will visit both nearer the time, but I would love any opinions of either school! Thanks.

no competition, skipton grammar. Very very good school indeed.

Thanks for the reply. Can I ask what your experience is of skipton (or Ilkley)?

I have friends who teach at Ilkley, it is a perfectly good comp, and you dd will be fine there, but not in the league of skipton girls (know one person who teaches there, couple of kids that go there and have taken my students there for various comps, the girls there are delightful. Oh, and the results are fab (though i think ermysteads are better)

Sounds good! Thanks for taking the time. I just can't work out if it justifies the long school day and reduced likelihood of local mates.

Skipton girls results are hugely 'modified' IMO
Particularly at gcse... They take soooo many that they all end up with 14+ which looks amazing .
Very much regret our decision to send to Skipton girls.. Feel surrounded by similar minded parents
Ermysteds is very very different and cannot praise it enough .
If you want a true picture of the two - academically look at the a level results - Sghs does not look so outstanding then .. Ilkley grammar might 'only' be a comp but again check out the a level results to see how we'll your daughter could do.
Recent reports by a parent working in both schools was that Sghs 'seems to breed rude arrogant disrespectful girls' whereas igs 'lovely atmosphere - feeling if mutual respect in the classroom .. Driven interested pupils'
I could write essays ;)

Given this was 10 years ago, any more recent thoughts? Same situation - academic &, keen DD. In Priority 1 area for IGS and Skipton Girls accessible by bus. No concerns about day length etc for us.
With thanks

@roratone if you search skipton girls school, a recent thread should pop up. It only has about 3 posts, but more recent (if that helps).

I do drive past the school everyday, looks nice enough and the girls seem pleasant and sensible- but obviously I'm only seeing the flock of students at end of day Grin
