you are writing holidays onto the calendar for this academic year and realise that you have different October half terms and different February half terms as your dd's and just one week off at Easter that coincides with your dd's holidays.
Why can't neighbouring local authorities sort their acts out! Angry

No camping for us at half term then. Sad

I teach in a different LA to my dc's and this is always my worry. Fortunately dh is not a teacher, so we could cover it, but it is nightmare for you- holidays witht he dcs are the one real advantage of teaching!

Nightmare! Far easier if schools just all have the same!

I work in a state school and my Dd is in an independent school, both same area. Luckily our holidays are always the same, bar the 3 weeks extra DD gets. But this is only because the headteacher at DD's school always consults the LEA's term dates before planning DD's school holidays - she always makes sure that the holiday dates match, with the extra weeks either just before or just after.

I wouldn't be that cruel to my dd's Smile- one is still at primary anyway.

soooo tempting to take them out of school for a family holiday....... Grin

The thing is that almost all LAs have more than one neighbouring authority, so if they synch holidays, then practically all LAs will end up having to synch hols.

Well why don't they?!! National school holidays!!

Fair enough :) though a bit rubbish for tourism in trying to stretch the seasons out.

LOL gumby, I thought parents and teachers had been campaigning to have the holidays spread, to help with the school holiday time price inflation?

I had a different Feb half-term to my DCs this year. It was most annoying.

It wouldn't affect the holiday price bit anyway. The holiday companies are not daft. they already take into account the different holidays that occur anyway.
DD always has an extra week at Christmas, Easter and the summer. The only week in those that you may be able to get a cheaper week is the one near Christmas.

Before I went back into schools we thought we'd get cheaper holidays - but no. The holiday companies know these extra weeks of holidays exist and the prices rise then anyway too.

It's like the whole shorter summer holiday arguement - it wouldn't help anyway. Infact it would make life harder for many people. Most people want to holiday in the summer as generally better weather, esp if staying in or not far from UK. Prices for those holidays would still be much higher and trying to get time off from work would be a nightmare with everyone wanting 2 of those 4 weeks off. Many people just simply wouldn't be able to take the time off and there'd be just as much, if not more, children having term time holidays.
