I don't know whether writing this post will help but I'm fed up this weekend. My partner is yet again pissed and it's saturday. I am late twenties, he is late forties and we have been together for nearly ten years. He is a great partner in many ways. He is kind caring cooks and cares for me. Has never cheated on me works hard and compliments me. There is one theme that has run throughout our relationship and that is drink. I like a drink just socially and I can happily go without for a few weeks. On the other hand, my partner has now started to drink most nights. A few cans after work then on weekends more. There are times that he hides alcohol bottles around the flat and I usually find them. It isn't every day he does this but it's more often than it should be and it pisses me off is the sneaking and hiding. We have had many conversations about this and he says he only does it because I make such a deal out out of it. I make such a deal out of it because he hides it plus I hate him when he is drunk. He turns into a sarcastic twat who ypu can't take seriously then he sits there eyes glazed biting his nails. He is doing this right now. So as not to drip feed I don't hate alcohol I drink myself but not all the time. My grandad was an alcoholic and abusive to my grandma. My partner is not abusive to me but we have had arguments in past that have been name calling at each other. We also both suffer mental health problems which doesn't help. Years ago when he would come in drunk he'd threaten to throw the glass table through the window as he felt really depressed (which he doesn't do now I might add) but it's lwft it's mark and I now hate when he gets drunk. He becomes a slobby mess. He's made my tea just an hour ago and it's gorgeous. I am really grateful but he also brought home a bottle of wine for us. I'm pretty certain he dranks when he was out. He was out of the room for ages tonight and he's come back in and his eyes look even more glazed which makes me feel even more suspicious so I said to him You're drunk, he denied and said he was tired. I think he is lying but now we are not really speaking much although our cat is doing enough yowling for us both. Lol. Anyway this fuels the suspicion from me which fuels the hiding from him. Last night I found a glass bottle down the side of the sofa and some more in his bag from through the week. He doesn't drink at work. Sorry for the essay. I would like some practical advice please as I would like to speak to him tomorrow. I want to tell him that I don't want another ten years of this and neither do I want babies with someone who can't control himself. He would literally be all I ever needed if it wasn't for this. I want to stress how much he cherishes and cares for me. Also his family have a big drinking culture where as mine doesn't. So also he's not a bastard lol x so any serious advice on how to handle this or anyone with any experience would be great. Also he doesn't stay out all night or get pissed with friends. It's mostly at pub or at home xxx
