Would this worry you?

Me, DP and DD (4) were laying on the floor having a cuddle, DD was lying between us with our DS (2) was jumping about all over us. Me DD and DP were playing at going to sleep but me and DP were really tired and were sort of dropping off. DD was kicking about and we both said to stop kicking and then she said to DP "I'm going to kick your willy" and she put her foot near his willy. I was moving to get up anyway at this point and moved her foot out of the way and said no that's not right and as I moved her foot I felt that DP had a semi erection.

I immediately called him into the other room and he came in, he vehemently denied having a semi erection and said I was sick for even saying such a thing, then he said even if he had it would have been because he was half asleep.

My DP is the most boundaried and healthy man I have ever known and there has never been even the smallest sniff of any sign of abuse to me or the children. He had a normal happy childhood and I have never had any worries about anything like this in the past. I feel uneasy about this, mostly because I'm not sure if other people would think it were a worry. What do you think?

I think.... Massive over reaction!

I'd say that you're overreacting. Blokes often have a bit of a semi when they're sleeping. It doesn't mean that he was aroused by your daughter.

I've been informed that men occasionally get semi erections from the vibration of being a passenger on a bus... I'm fairly certain DP is not attracted to buses. Men can't always account for them so I wouldn't worry unless there is something else to back them up or an instinct telling you something is wrong. You know your DP and children better than us.

I feel like crying because there is nothing in our lives that says he is abusive and he is absolutely adorable with our children. This just made me worried, maybe because my own mother stood by and let our father abuse us, not sexually but in every other way. Maybe I'm being a bit simplistic about what causes erections.

I have no instinct that he is abusive to our children, not in a million years. I feel a bit silly now I hear about buses

I would be concerned about the reaction you had to it. You say that you may have reacted as such as yoir father was abusive toward you when you were a child. Are you seeking help for the feelings qnd reactions his treatment has caused?

Yes Duchess (sounds funny!) I have spent a lot of time on that over the years, I'm not saying that is what made me wonder if it was cause to worry, just that could be a factor in it for me if I have over-reacted. My DD didn't hear our conversation at all.

A bloke can get semi hard from a full bladder and frequently for no apparent reason at all.

I think you are massively over-reacting tbh.

Op, many men get semis when falling asleep/ asleep/ waking up/ dozing and even needing a wee, completely innocently. You have a ds? It might be a good time to learn more about boy bits and the way they function?

It seems I might not need to worry Blush thank goodness for MN.

Even little boys can have erections when they've just woken up. It's not sexual, it just happens.

I don't think you have anything to worry about, based on what you said. It sounds like you're over-reacting.

Please apologise to your dp.

accusations like that can really damage a person in terms of the way he interacts with his own children.

he had a semi. not because he was particularly aroused, but because he wad half asleep...that is entirely normal.

to take him into another room and question him like that is shocking.

it's ok to want to protect your children op, especially given your past abuse, but please consider your thoughts before making a meal of things in future.

Thanks for you and Brew for your dp

Got to echo others, you are totally over reacting. Dp is entirely straight but if he was half asleep and a bloke brushed against his cock there's every chance he'd get an erection, does not mean he's attracted to that person or would try to seduce them! its not the person its the feeling iyswim. Also I read that some people get 'aroused' through breastfeeding, which is totally natural and 100% does not mean you are about to be inappropriate with your baby! The world is a bit over zelous in the spot a peado campaign at the moment, of course peadophilia is totally wrong and deserves the harshest of punishments but the witch hunts gone crazy and I worry about the impact that could have on family relationships. Particularly dads and their daughters etc.

Its understandable that you had the reaction given your past, but please apologize to your dp and maybe have some talking therapy about your past if that's something you would feel comfortable doing.

The trouble is, there is so much talk of abuse in the paper/the news that we cant see the wood for the trees. yes, you over reacted, but stepping back you can see that you were over reacting. No harm done.
