Ex wife owes me money

In December my partners ex asked him if she could buy something off me - I run my own business. She lives close by but we, his ex wife and I don't have contact. Partner dropped it off but she wasn't in so didn't collect any money. Not a problem as I put in one of my standard invoices with many payment options and thought she'd pay up at a later date. Maybe give it to the teenager when we she comes to us for her week here (we do 50/50). Seven weeks has passed by and nothing. I did run into her in the town 3 weeks ago and passed the time of day, briefly, and she did mention that she was aware she hadn't paid me yet, but still no payment. My partner wants to send her a message to remind her (I don't have any contact details for her) but I don't really want him to get involved as the agreement was between me and his ex. I'm minded to just forget about it. Life's too short and all that but my partner thinks that's wrong. What would you do?

If it's a business transaction, I don't think you should forget all about it. Pursue her for the money the same as you would with any other customer. That's going to be the best way to keep your partner out of it. If he feels responsible, he will want to intervene. If he sees you dealing with is, he won't.

Personally I would contact her and ask her for payment. I wouldn't do that to anyone so I would hate it done to me.

To let it go sends out a negative message that people can do what they like to me.

I wouldn't be happy with that.

OK thank you. Normally, in the first instance, I would send out via post a reminder invoice. Would that be ok to do?

Do you have her number?

I would send a text along the lines of..

Morning ex, please can you make payment for the goods the business supplied, the invoice is now overdue. Best regards doglover17.

Keep it simple and straightforward.

She ordered it, she pays.

She asked to buy something now she needs to pay for it.

Don't text. Follow normal procedure.

Sorry, missed the bit about you don't have her contact details. Send reminder though your DP.

Get the contact details from DP and send the reminder yourself..... It's meant to be a business.

Thank you everyone. Your input is appreciated. I will send out one of my reminder invoices today. Whilst I don't have email or mobile I do know her address, so in the post it will go!

I would let your ex deal with it.

He arranged it, he dropped it off, he has the contact with her. I don't see it as any sort of avoidance, just common sense. If it had been exactly the same scenario but a mate of his i'm sure you would just say to him, 'oi your mate hasn't paid me yet, give him nudge'

Whatever, i do agree that you should not just let it slide, that sends out a message far more significant than just the money.
