Hi,

Does anyone else have 2 weeks where you feel affectionate to your DP and then 2 weeks where you just can't stand them anywhere near you?

Literally just as I finish my period I am all over my DP but 2 weeks later I completely go off him!!! I'm sure he's noticed it, he rarely says anything maybe makes the odd comment that I ignore. Its starting to effect our relationship.

Any tips on leveling me out???

Thanks

Can't help, I seem to be in that holding pattern this past while too. Sure it's hormone related, in my case, menopause/perimonopause.Sad

Cerazette is fab. No periods as you take it 28 days. It's changed my life as I was 2 weeks PMT, 1 week weepy period lady and 1 week nice as pie. DH was a bit of a saint (and very confused!).

Not for everyone but worth a try.

Prozac will even out your moods but there's a risk that your libido will drop.

Good luck x

I had that for all my life you really need to explain this to your partner. In my experience they can take it no problem. In fact once you are clar about it it may also help you to have more regularity. Sex is good when you feel that way if you can bear to get it started

I have been exactly the same since I came off cerazette (currently TTC). Spoke to my GP about it and he suggested taking magnesium, it's meant to balance your hormones. Started last month, the difference was amazing. I felt SO much better, def worth a try!

JFTO has a good answer which worked well for me and my DW (I am a middle-aged bloke). We just 'worked around' it by ignoring the two 'off' weeks and having twice as much fun in the 'on weeks'! We even used to mark it out in advance in our diaries! It worked for us and oddly brought us closer because it was a shared experience and we didn't pretend it wasn't happening!

When my DH and I had been together for many years he said that it took him a year to work out that my mood swings were to do with my periods. And when I was nice I was really nice and it made up for the time I wasn't so nice Grin.

Sorry Pandora, I posted last night then disappeared. As Bex said cerazette is a progesterone only pill which you take with no breaks so you don't have periods. I have to say that I googled the possible side effects and nearly didn't start taking it. And the first month was difficult - I had break through bleeding and i felt like i had permanent PMT.

However it really settled down and my mood swings have gone. For me this is life changing as I have been a hormone hostage since I was a teenager. I have put on some weight, but it's a small price.

I am sure it's not for everyone, but anything's worth a try if your cycle is having such an awful effect on your life.

@ Minorkey - that's really admirable. But for some women (me included) it wasn't just about the relationship issues which the PMT brought up - it was the way I felt - desperate, depressed, out of control and without hope. Even if you know that's coming it's bloody hard to deal with when you are going through it, even with support.

bairn24 - fair enough. If it's affecting you that badly as a 'hormone hostage' then of course you do need some chemical help, and I realise that some people do (myself and DW both with biochemical backgrounds so we understand a bit about that). Very glad that the pharmacology worked out for you.

Thanks for all your responces. Unfortunately I have high blood pressure, already take 2 tablets everyday for this, i'm 36, but this stops me from being on the pill.

I may try Magnesium as suggested by Bexa.

Must admit that I haven't tried talking to my doctor about it, a few years ago they put me on anti depressants which I only took for a few months but was totally shocked at how difficult they were to come off. I don't want to go down that path again, so would prefer a more herbal approach.

Talking to my DP, ummm I know I should try this one, but he's a real mans man, doesn't have much time for 'ladies' business! lol

Thanks again everyone!

Hello Pandora. I know what you mean. When I have my PMT I don't really like my husband, it's not just a physical thing, I just don't feel the same about him.

We get through it because I have explained (during my more rational, non-hormonal moments) exactly what it feels like. It's taken him a long time but I think he finally understands what I'm going through.

It's absolutely awful. At the time though I do know that it's only temporary.

I have lots of other symptoms and I'm still trying to get it sorted. Can I ask you what your diet is like? I think diet is probably the key but the changes I would have to make are so drastic it will be really hard, but worth it if it helps. It's just getting started. Exercise definitely helps too.

My GP put me on anti depressants but they did absolutely nothing to help.

I would tell your DP if you can, maybe you can find some literature to back yourself up with if he doesn't take you seriously.

I went on the mini pill in March after having my DD in November, my labido was so low I could have fallen over it and sex has all but stopped and since the end of August I've been bleeding every two to three weeks. I have mood swings so extream that my DH asked if I was bipolar, because of this my feelings towards my DH change from day to day and the poor man doesn't know where he stands.
I talked it over with the Dr yesterday and I have decided to come off the pill altogether and see how things go.

Yes, definitely magnesium and b-complex. Possibly evening primrose oil too. They really help with PMT

Hi Pandorasof

I have terrible PMT too and go right off DH. I have found that cutting out sugar and chocolate has an enormous positive effect on me. Try it!
