Can't believe I just emailed TA to say, 'Please stop!'

Although I have, on occasion, felt the urge to throw something at my TV/radio when disagreeing with a storyline, I have never before felt the need to write a letter of complaint. Today that changed for me when I realised that this would be the first Sunday when I would not be listening to the Omnibus of the programme that has been part of my life for over ten years. I have found it increasingly hard to listen because of all the ridiculous inconsistencies and character transformations but I really cannot bring myself to listen now that the Rob/Helen SL has become so deeply unpleasant and now involves a child.

I know that it's fiction but I really fail to understand how anyone could think that this is entertainment.

I don't imagine that it will make a scrap of difference, but it made me feel better to think that I had made my feelings known. Anyone else 'made a stand'?

I've been thinking about it. I've listened since I was a teenager - so about 30 years - but I stopped when the Knob/Helen story line took off. I just can't bear it. I read the synopsis on Lowfield as it's not as bad as listening; but I actually woke up worrying about why Henry is wetting the bed and having bad behaviour, and that horrible Ursula woman, as well as the vile Knob. Who did you email? I might email too. I feel really annoyed that something that has been part of my life for such a long time is now something I can't bear to listen to.

I went on the Archers website and clicked the 'Contact Us' tab at the top of the page. The email is [email protected]

It really is awful now that they've involved Henry (even though I know he isn't really even a child actor!) I suppose it wouldn't be so bad if there seemed to be a purpose to the horrible story line but I just can't imagine why Rob and his horrible mother want to separate Helen from her son and why they are so determined to force her to have a home birth which would be potentially dangerous for the precious son of Rob.

Incidentally, I think the home birth story is possibly the most ludicrous yet - as if none of the medical team (let alone Helen's family) would be strongly advising against this course of action, bearing in mind her previous experience! And the idea that the single experience of one woman that Helen barely knows...from 30 years ago.....should influence her so much. Don't get me started!

I imagine that the production team are congratulating themselves on the 'impact' of their current storylines because so many people are discussing them. Perhaps if they see the impact on their listening figures, they may reconsider.

The trouble is that apparently listening figures have gone up by around 100K, so that's not going to be any kind of disincentive.
