We're expecting our first in July and are looking for the perfect buggy. It just doesn't seem to exist....who knew buggy buying was so difficult??! Does anyone have any recommendations?

We stay on a farm so the buggy needs to be fine going along a bumpy track. We like walking along forest tracks, for anything more extreme we're likely to carry. It needs to be very robust, I will be using it at least twice a day every day, able to be cleaned easily (hard plastic seat base would be ideal), and have good protection from wind and rain, although it will be a summer baby so I don't necessarily need a carry cot as long as the seat lies flat(suitable from birth).
We also have a dog, (who is very slobbery when she plays with her ball) so we'd like a leather or plastic (not foam) handle that can be wiped clean.
Size is not an issue as we have a fairly big car, but we would like to be able to put the car seat on the frame. The MIL would like it to have a rear facing seat, so that would be a bonus, but it's not essential for us.
It also doesn't need to be one hand fold or anything fancy, we can deal with difficult folding if it is the right buggy.
All sounds easy so far..... our biggest issue is finding a buggy that when it folds the handle doesn't touch the floor or the wheels, and is easy to pick up without the wheels touching your body. It doesn't sound like too big a deal for most folk, and the woman in the shop was laughing at us for making such a big deal about it.... but she's evidently not been out in the countryside in all weather conditions. I'm maybe asking too much, I suppose we could just wipe the handle when it gets muddy... it just seems crazy that all terrain buggy manufacturers don't seem to have thought about this....

So, any recommendations would be lovely!

That sounds like quite a list of requirements. I have the out n about nipper which has been brilliant. It's my third pushchair and I wish I'd bought it first. It doesn't fit many of the requirements on your list but my lifestyle sounds similar to yours and we've really rated the buggy.

Micralite
Stands to fold with handle in upright position
Mesh seat can be hosed down
Different options for newborn -carrycot or car seat compatible
All terrain tyres
Handle looks foam but you could perhaps get a cover

Jane trider. Very robust, comfy seat, parent & forward facing. Lots of good options in terms of car seats and carry cots. the handle doesn't touch the wheels and it's easy to pick up.

Out and about nipper 360. Perfect on rough ground and very easy to push and steer. Bugger to fold though

Baby jogger summit. The handle will touch the wheels but it is rubber. And it won't rear face but does lie flat or take a carrycot. Great on bumpy and muddy ground.
