Buggy for running....is it really this complicated?

My DH and I are both keen runners and want to be able to run with the baby once it's old enough. I've seen sooo many people running with buggies over the years but went into John Lewis last week and the lady told me that most of the 3 wheelers or ones that are called 'joggers' aren't actually designed for running and that they are actually quite difficult to find.

Is this just a load of tosh? We want one travel system that will have a carrycot, fits a car seat and can be used as a buggy for running. I guess that means it needs to have good suspension. We definitely don't want to have to buy a separate buggy for running. Am I just being unrealistic or do these things exist????

Thanks! Wink

Baby Jogger Summit XC is good. You can get an optional carrycot for first 3 months.

The Baby Jogger Summit is amazing. Front wheel locks in a straight line for running and the suspension is awesome.

It is also a fabulous buggy in all other contexts. I have loved mine and my best friend bought the same one having played with mine. They are great. He husband has run with it loads.

The JL lady is correct - the Peach Jogger for example is not a running pushchair. But the Baby Jogger Summit and Nipper Sport is. There aren't many but do crop up on Ebay etc.
Dont forget that its not advisable to run with the baby until they are 6 months old.

Thanks ladies. I'm going to look at the baby jogger and the mountain buggy this weekend. It's really important to us that we can get out running once the baby is old enough so I think it's probably worth getting one that is designed for running. Maybe this will make the choice simpler, seeing as there aren't that many that are specifically designed for running....here's hoping anyway!! :-)

Someone brought a Nipper Sport in when I was waiting for an antenatal appointment. It looked pretty good but quite long. May be worth getting the dimensions beforehand.

When I was in Cronwall this year I saw somebody with one of these .It looked pretty fancy (enough to make me peer at the make).

I doubt it would do full travel system though. For a one stop shop I think you peobably want the baby jogger. I looked at the mountain buggy too but do not underestimate how useful the one hand folding is on the jogger!!

I have a summit which is brilliant. I do use an ordinary pushchair around town though, it's very long and hard to see the front unless you're tall. Having said that the long wheelbase makes them stable so doubt others are much different.

The other option I don't think anyone has mentioned is a Bob revolution se which does take a car seat but not a carrycot to my knowledge.

I got mine from Chariots, they're great and competitively priced.

If you want a Jogging buggy I'd recommend the BoB Revolution SE (does take a carrycot...obviously not whilst running) or the Baby Jogger Summit. Have a look at this review site I've found....www.buggypramreviews.co.uk. It helped me discount a few and pick the Revolution for me...very popular in the States.
