New Mum to be.....Not a Clue!

Is it worth purchasing a Travel System and if so can anyone recommend a good make.
I'm very concious of the fact that it would need to be pretty easy to use, fold away and store and I really have no idea. Thought I'd best see if anyone more experienced had any advice - we're not due til July, I'm just trying to stay ahead of the game.

travel systems are useful if you have the kind of lifestyle that means you often nip to the shops, or do most of your trips by car.
They are no use at all if you walk or use the bus more than the car, or if you will be out and about more than a couple of hours (the recommendation is 2hrs max in the car seat)
Most pushchairs are quite difficult to fold, at first, but you soon get the knack of your particular brand if you stick with it.
Buy one where the seat rear faces if you possibly can, it really is a massive plus.
Also, do check that the folded dimensions will fit in your car boot, and that its light enough to lift easily. Carrycots are great, but rarely get used and are quickly outgrown.

depending on where you live it's definitely worth a trip to the kiddicare warehouse in peterborough! their whole top floor is pushchairs... you can try them all out and decide what type is best for you

persoanlly I preferred a proper pram so that baby could lie down all the time and have a nice comfy ride, but it does depend on where you live and how big your car is etc etc!

baby should not be in a carseat too long, for this reason i am not a fan of travel systems.

prefer them in a carrycot for first few months flat.

what you need depends on your lifestyle...do you drive alot? use public transport or walk everywhere? Would you like to be able to use 'offroad' i.e woodland walks beach etc or will it all be urban use?

It was just more for the ease of buying everything all together rather than keeping baba in the Car Seat for long periods of time. We live in SW London/Surrey but have family on the coast and in rural areas so will be visiting them often. We do drive alot and don't use public transport that often.

Will definately consider a trip to the Kiddicare centre at some point it looks fab.

Im not really familiar with that make unfortunately so couldn't really comment on quality or what it would be like to use.

Be great idea to take a trip to kiddicare tho for a look around.

most important to get the carseat that fits your car rather than goes with pram tbh, as not all seats are a good fit in every car.

if you are in/out of car ALOT you may want to look at something that is not too heavy or is a one piece fold.

Whereas if you walk everywhere than air tyres will make the ride smoother push and smoother for baby. Will also be nice off road when you visit relatives.

Thanks for the advice niclola I'll certainly bear it in mind. Have just told DP about the Kiddicare store e said it was a great idea - then I told him it was in peterborough LOL! I'm sure I can persuade him.
