In search of the perfect 3-wheeler

Hi - I'm going cross-eyes searching the web and so looking for advice!!

I want a 3-wheeler for my yet to be born child number 2. Needs to be able to cope with gravelly paths / muddy tracks but fold pretty compact and light weight to lift into the car. I'll be using it for a new born so need lie flat.

I was sold on the Phil & Teds, but I'm not planning to have baby number 3 any time soon and so keep thinking there must be something that is better if you don't need the doubles kit. Also would prefer to have the option of rearward facing while baby is really little.

Looked at the iCandy apple but carry cot enormously heavy. Also thought about the Britax B-Smart but reviews on this site were pretty negative about it.

Any advice? By the way, I don't mind if the buggy that is perfect for newborn needs replacing when they are twelve months - hopefully I'll have a job by then!

i wouldn't call either the two you have selected a 'proper' three wheeler. have you looked at mb with carrycot?

i love my nipper 360 but doesn't have carrycot, i just love the lightness of it perfect compact fold and so easy to use.

looked at the mb on internet but can't find any stockists near me and wanted to see it before parting with cash! (travelled to several of the places listed on their website as stockists and they have all stopped bothering to stock and recommended the phil & teds instead)

have you used the mb - were you pleased?

have not considered the nipper.... will investigate. Thanks!

The 09 mountain buggys are far more superior to the 2010 ones! Phil and teds dont even compare in my opinion. The mountain buggys handle ANYTHING and are built to last forever. They may be pricey but in this case you definately get what you pay for. If you are anywhere near Essex you are more than welcome to take one of mine for a test drive (I have both the 09 and 2010 ones)

That's so kind shatteredmum, but we are in Gloucestershire! DOn;t seem to be many mb stockists in the area - prob why so many phil & teds.

praise for mb seems to be worth a trek to find a stockists so will get on the case!

Looked on internet at nipper - imagine very good for larger babies and toddlers but doesn't look ideal for newborns!

Cheers :)

Look at the Easy Walker Sky. I have the double and absolutely love it so I'm sure the single would be even more of a dream to handle. Used mine for newborn with sheep skin and it was fine.

Big selling point for me with the double was that it was so much cheaper than the MB but having pushed both i really can't tell why MB is so much more expensive.

Thanks for all the advice. I have done a total 360 (tee hee) and decided to go for the nipper. I was slightly concerned about comfort for newborn, but am sure it will be perfect long term.

So worst case scenario is that the first few months are non ideal - but then I don't have great expectations of long stomps to start with given that it will be the dead of winter and I'll be on 4 hours sleep a night - if I'm lucky!

dh agrees that it's perfect (and cheaper than most other options) so I'm going to stop being indecisive and order one :)

i love my nipper! i've just ordered my third as i sell them and regret they are superlight. Would recommend teh footmuff too as they are slightly showerproof and come round in a hood to keep little ones snuggly!

I love the Nipper 360. My newborn is 11 days old and really comfy in it. I use the Sunshine Kids Comfy Soft Cushioned Liner for newborns and also would second the Nipper footmuff.
