We're looking into villages / or the countryside or even near a nice town.
We don't need to commute either. Dh has mentioned the Burwash area ??

My little girl is 3 if that makes any difference.

Is everyone moving to Sussex? I'm looking too. Not desperately quick but it will have to be done.

Stop moving to sussex. Its very full up

Where abouts are you looking. It has some lovely areas by the sea.
The further south you look the better the variety of area.
I am on the coast and have the south downs from the front and the sea from the back. Good train link to London. Around 90mins.

just posted this on the other sussex thread currently going:

i grew up in Handcross which is ok. not as picturesque as Lindfield, Cuckfield etc etc thpoupgh!

but handy as is right on the A23 so easy access to London/Brighton and close to Crawley (where I live now) which has decent shops

I just feel like I don't know anything about Sussex .... I know all the little nursery/schools details in West Kent (where I live now), as in my comfort zone.
Does anyone know Robertsbridge , Hurst Green or Burwash areas ?

We are close to the three areas you mention, having just moved.

Hurst Green is on the main A21 road so feels a bit like a ribbon development, although I think there is a bit off the main road too. We looked at a nice house in Burwash Weald and Burwash does seem nice but again a bit mainroady for me. We are closest to Robertsbridge. It is good for us because it has a mainline station and I really like the school which also has a nursery on site and seems to have a real heart of the community feel. It is also bypassed so not a main road. In a similar area, Etchingham also seems nice.

Where are you coming from? What kind of place are you looking for?

Burwash is very picturesque but somewhat remote. Echo the main road sentiments about your other thoughts. Have you been to Lewes? It is a fantastic town and close but not TOO close to Brighton. ££££££ though. I live in a village north of Lewes which is good value but I miss Lewes hugely and still work and spend much of my time there. That said we now have a nice big detached house with a huge garden which never would have happened if we'd stayed in Lewes. Do you like being remote or would you prefer to have some action on your doorstep as it were?!

Is West Sussex too far? We will be in Horsham this time next week and can report back then!

Thank you very much all your comments. They really are very helpful.

We are going to have a look around the Robertsbridge area tomorrow.

Can anyone recommend a good preschool in the area ?

Where is the nearest supermarket ?

Are there any ballet classes for preschoolers ?

Thank you once again

This is a very timely thread for me - we are also looking at moving to the Burwash area (from Brighton so already know parts of Sussex pretty well). The road through it didn't seem too busy but then we have only visited on the weekend so it may be more quiet then than usual. There doesn't seem to be any preschools there though - I was hoping there would be one attached to the school. I also have a three year old (as well as a nine month old).

We were also thinking of the Heathfield area but I've only driven through it so don't really know what it's like....

I'll be keeping an eye on the thread for any more handy info! Wink

Burwash is gorgeous, Etchingham is also lovely and has a ML station. Have several friends in Robertsbridge and it has an amazing community spirit. I would also avoid Hurst Green as it is cut in half by the A21, which is an extremely busy road. Wadhusrt and its' villages re also nice places.

Heathfield is not somewhere I would choose to live (aapologies to anyone there)

I'm near Robertsbridge, it is lovely.
School is good, and there are quite a few other good local village schools nearby too (Mountfield, Sedlescombe, Hurst Green). The Community College has a good reputation too.
Good playground in Robertsbridge, and the community spirit is strong.
Good pubs and Boots on the High St too.

Frant, Wadhurst, Stonegate, etchingham, robertsbridge, Battle, Crowhurst, West St Leonards, St leonards Warrior Square, and Hastings

sorry, not relevant, it's just the train announcement i listened to every day for years and years

i suppose it might help you with the railway line!

Report
TmiEdward · 14/11/2010 21:49

You might want to avoid the last three stations on the line! Get off at Battle or before!
