Hi - still looking at moving to Somerset in the next couple of years. Maybe one year, maybe two.

There are currently 3 houses on the market that are possibilities.

One is in Nether Stowey and is Grade 2 listed - FAB house. I really love what I have seen of it. It is probably too much house for us really but as I said - I love it.

One house is in Taunton itself. Needs some work. We would like to extend it I think - certainly on the ground floor.

The other house is in Bishops Lydeard and needs total redecoration and again we would possibly extend it.

DH is keener on more rural than I am. I like that idea of the Taunton one as it is in walking distance of the town centre and I would like to be able to walk everywhere.

Nether Stowey is a little further out than we originally wanted.

Bishops Lydeard is perfect location-wise.

Any opinions wise Somerset people?

Can't advise specifically on Somerset but know where you are coming from re rural or town. We've just gone round in circles on this one, we were going to make the big rural move but have ended up going for a townhouse . I've always preferred the country but when I sat down and listed the pro's and con's re access to schooling, needing to drive ds everywhere, not being able to walk to a shop/bus/station etc the town has won this time.......the next move will be the rural one, perhaps.

Where do you think you/DH will be working? Nether Stowey can be a big pain for getting in to/out of Taunton so Bishops Lydeard or town itself would be better for that. Having said that, I think NS is a nicer village that BL!

Whereabouts in town is the in town one?

verylapsedrunner - I know! It is so hard. I THINK I would love rural but in reality I want to be able to walk to a shop, and a pub etc. I do not want to have to drive DS everywhere.

Moosy - DH will be retired really. We are looking for something that has holiday cottages to let or potential to convert to give him something to do. The NS one has a cottage. The BL and town ones don't. The town one is in South Road.

Most of South road's properties are lovely Buda(I grew up in the same area )-but you have alot of traffic coming in on that road plus you've got Richard Huish college,Kings College and the secondary school,it's bloody busy first thing in the morning and in rush hour.
