Our drive

We're hoping to put our house on the market in the next 2 weeks. We are getting differing advice regarding our drive. Some day to gravel it all and others say to leave it. They all agree on the price we will get for the house which will be around £210,000.

The thing is to gravel the drive will cost £1,000 of which we will not get any return. Yes, it will make the place look a bit nicer but it is lost money. We won't even make back the cost of the work we have done to the house over the last 4 years due to the downturn in the market anyway. We're set to lose about £45,000.

Any thoughts.

I should say the drive at the moment is just grey dirt which has been moulded in with a whacker plate.

It is about kerb appeal - if it makes the difference between a sale or no sale then it is worth it.

If you decide to try to sell your house when the market is so poor you will not get your 'costs' back.

But surely you did them to make your house a nicer place to live in while you were there, not just to make money?

FWIW I would gravel the drive.

We have a monster drive. It is £1,000 with hubby doing all the labour.

There isn't another house like ours in the area so nothing to compare it to.

I don't really like gravel but if it looks terrible maybe you should do something.A better looking house will sell quicker but it will not affect the price.maybe market it as is and if the feedback relates to the drive then do it!

if its unique then you prob have some flexibility - if the rest of the house and garden is good then i think you will get away with the drive

if you keen to put it on in two weeks just go for it - if people start to mention the drive or cite it for a discount then you can make a decision
